Katy Trail Ice House Offering New Items On BBQ Menu

Katy Trail Ice House is known for many things. Their convenience to the trail, a collection of absolutely beautiful people to people watch while enjoying one of many tap brews, a damned good burger and BBQ. Wait, BBQ? Thursday through Sunday while it lasts, yes BBQ.

Recently we checked in with pitmaster and kitchen manager Eduardo Flores at Katy Trail Dallas and he showed us around his pits and even invited us into his kitchen for a burger. Snuffers Hosting Fundraiser For Fallen First Responders

Next Friday marks the one-year anniversary of one of Dallas’ most tragic days, when five of the city’s finest first responders were gunned down during an ambush.

To honor their memory, Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar has joined Lakewood Brewing Company to host a fundraiser benefitting the Guns & Hoses Foundation of North Texas, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing immediate financial assistance to the families of fallen first responders lost in the line of duty. John Tesar Hosts 2016 Burgers & Burgundy October 7th

Burgers & Burgundy Host Chef John Tesar, has announced the chef line up for the eighth annual event, benefitting DIFFA/Dallas (The Dallas Chapter of Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS) featuring renowned local chefs. The event will take place at Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.

The Back 9 In Addison Re-Opens With A Fresh Coat Of Paint And New Menu

The Back 9 in Addison closed shop for a few days to give the bar and grill a fresh coat of paint, and do a little remodeling. You will find the new space more inviting, and the food  a little more inventive. For those that travel to some of Addison’s hot spots and are not especially fond of the smoke, you will also find that the Back 9 has taken some measures to improved that situation as well, with added ventilation and a non-smoking area. In the next few days you will also some new furnishings that were held up by the snow storms in the East.

We checked in to the Back 9 to plow through some of the new menu, and enjoy an old favorite that is a bit over the top. The Friday Burger is definitely wacky with its juicy half pound patty, topped with bacon, fresh jalapenos, fries, cheese sticks and a fried egg for good measure. It is not for everyone, but for those that love a good challenge, this burger is for you. Pints & Quarts Set To Open Mid April

I reached out to Brooke Humphries (owner of Mudsmith, Barcadia, and It’ll Do) about her new burger resto, Pints & Quarts that will be located on the southwest corner of Ross and Greenville Avnue. This is a tiny building that formerly hosted a small tire shop.

If you drive by the corner you can see that construction has begun on the building, and Humphries is looking at mid April to open this burger stop that will have a “vintage gas station vibe”. Humphries said, “it will be as period correct as we can get it. You know I love that.”  Look for solid fast casual burgers, flat top dogs with a good all-in price point below $10.  Continue reading →

Ace’s Ice House & Chop Shop Opens In Frisco

Frisco’s newest eatery, Ace’s Ice House & Chop Shop, opened its doors Wednesday night, serving a limited  but promising Texas casual menu, and warm southern hospitality.

Ace’s is chef-driven, and features two native Texas executive chefs:  Season 5 Masterchef contestant Cutter Brewer and Chef Brad Brown (formerly of Spindle Top Steak and Seafood in Houston).  With these two Texas boys at the helm, Ace’s is destined for success.   Continue reading →

Eureka! In Greek Means “I Have Found It”

So said Archimedes, apparently while in the bath, although it is not generally considered to be an anatomical reference. In the modern context, Eureka! is a new eatery, open only about a month, in the new Uptown development 3700M (so named because of its address on McKinney Avenue).

It occupies the highly visible slanted corner facing busy Blackburn and McKinney so we expected it to be discovered quickly. Shrewdly, our media event had been planned for what turned out to be the coldest night thus far in 2015, 28℉, which made concurrent temperatures in Stockholm (37℉) look OK and London, at 52℉, positively balmy. Plus, it was a Wednesday, so we figured we would have our pick of plum tables. Fat chance! The place was packed, and there was even a line. Twenty and thirty somethings had braved the cold to down the food that we were about to discover. Additional customers appeared every few minutes to pick up takeout orders (a bravery award to the bearded guy in the blue t-shirt).  Continue reading →

Hopdoddy Now Open in Addison

Hopdoddy Burger Bar opened its Addison doors Monday, September 29th, and is the latest transplant from Austin, Texas. Hopdoddy serves all natural beef ground fresh daily in its own grind room and cuts Kennebec spuds for their fries on premises.

Look for some really nice local beers from Dallas including selections from Deep Ellum Brewing Company, Peticolas, and around the state featuring brews from 512, St Arnold, Live Oak and Austin Beerworks.   Continue reading →
