No Valentine’s Day is complete without a visit to Dude, Sweet Chocolate, the bad boy of chocolatiers in Dallas run by chef Katherine Clapner.  You may have seen Clapner recently on Beat Bobby Flay, where she indeed did beat the Flay handily using her cheffy wiles to out chef the chef. She is also the creator of such delicious chocolates as Albatross (on our list of 75 things we miss most about Dallas) a blue cheese infused bonbon that impresses us anew with each taste adventure.   Continue reading

Chef Anastacia Quinones is one of our favorite chefs in Dallas for a reason. Versatility. She is definitely the master of Mexican cuisine and turns out a pretty amazing mole. Katherine Clapner, owner of Dude, Sweet Chocolate has secured a lease on 15th Street in Plano and now plans to open her fourth location.

Take the Candy Bar Quiz

by Steven Doyle

On the confectionary scale of life, the lowly chocolate bar that is available at grocers, gas stations and convenience stores everywhere scores fairly low on the grand scale of treats. In Dallas we have some fine chocolate makers including Dude, Sweet Chocolate, CocoAndre Chocolatier and opening August 19th, Kate Weiser whose shop will be located in Trinity Groves. But the actual largest seller worldwide still stands the mighty Nestle’s, regardless of the quality.

As an impulse buy for someone needing a pick-me-up in the afternoon, or a chocolate hoarding fiend that doesn’t require much on taste or quality will find the average  bar satisfying.   Continue reading

Happy Birthday Katherine Clapner

clapnerby Steven Doyle

It is the Queen of Chocolate’s birthday today. Katherine Clapner will most likely be celebrating with chocolate in true Dude, Sweet fashion, but we have a few ways not to celebrate her birthday. With bad chocolate. Below we provide a list of the worst chocolaty treats you could possibly imagine. Some do not even truly qualify as chocolate. For a real celebration we suggest checking out one of three Dude, Sweet Chocolate stores in DFW, including the new location on Greenville Avenue.
