More Hatch Celebration This Sunday At Southlake Central Market
You know it is Hatch Chile Season when you smell fresh roasted peppers everywhere, and it drives you to the nearest grocery to nab a few pounds. Some to cook with now, more to freeze for those barren chile months in the dead of winter. These special peppers grown in New Mexico are Anaheim’s all grown up. They benefit from the soil and sun only spied upon in the New Mexican heat, and this season they have a bounty.
One event you may not want to miss in Southlake uses the chile as its main ingredient. Central Market has called upon several local chefs to compete Iron Chef-style in a battle to out-spice the competition. Continue reading

Rathbun Bros. On Chopped August 11
When Chef Kent Rathbun was on our radio program a few weeks ago he mentioned that there would be some Rathbun’s on Chopped very soon and to keep an eye out for that. We just received notice that not only was he on Chopped, but he appeared once again with his brother Kevin Rathbun. You probably remember when this family force was together on the Food Network last time. They kicked Bobby Flay’s butt on Iron Chef. Kent also told us some fun stories about that on our program as well. Continue reading

craveRADIO: June 21, 2013
by Steven Doyle photos by Robert Bostick
Last week on craveRADIO we had chef Kent Rathbun in the studio to talk about his various restaurants including his flagship Abacus, Jasper’s and Rathbun’s Blue Plate which is located in Preston Center. The chef said he is currently looking for real estate to place another Jasper’s in North Dallas, which would certainly make a welcome addition to any neighborhood.
We also got a behind the scenes look at Iron Chef, and Rathbun discussed his victory over Bobby Flay. He mentioned that there may be a Rathbun on an upcoming Chopped on the Food Network (go, Kevin!)
We hope to have Kent back in the studio very soon as he had to dash off to a cooking class at Abacus. He actually slipped out in the middle of his Dirty Dozen class to pop by for this visit, and we certainly thank him for that. Continue reading

Brunching At Blue Plate
Kent Rathbun never does anything half way, it is truly one of those ‘go big or go home’ moments when dining at any of the chef’s restaurants. This certainly holds true to Rathbun’s Blue Plate located in Dallas restaurant epicenter Preston Center located near Northwest Highway on Preston.
Just over a year ago Rathbun promoted Jennifer Newbold to command the kitchen at Blue Plate and she has been knocking out home runs each night. Each night during the week Newbold is plating up special dishes that has the neighborhood in a frenzy. Monday night’s enjoy BBQ which is actually a Rathbun family favorite that dates back to his childhood. The BBQ at Rathbun’s some of the city’s finest. Continue reading
