Bourbon & Banter launches new spirits series featuring tasting menu by new Statler Executive Chef Joel Harloff
by Andrew Chalk
We have talked about Oak Cliff Cellars before. Recall that this St. Helena, California, winery is owned by Jim and Maria Richardson, who live in Oak Cliff. That explains the name. All of the wines have California appellations (places of origin) on them.
I see Jim “JR” Richardson periodically as he is a frequent donor to charity events. However, these events don’t usually allow time to sit down and talk at length about the wines. For this reason, when he invited me as a guest at a recent wine tasting he was giving to members of the Oak Cliff Cellars wine club at Bridge Bistro I jumped at the invitation. As well as JR’s wines, guest Chef for the evening was Dallas veteran, Joel Harloff. Continue reading
Two wine tastings next week are Crave Recommended.
Oak Cliff Cellars and Chef Joel Harloff pair up at Bridge Bistro on Wednesday January 8th at 6:30pm for a 4-course dinner plus customer update on upcoming developments at Oak Cliff Cellars, including some tours of wine country. Oak Cliff Cellars is a California winery whose owners live in Dallas. Hence their decision to name the winery after their place of residence. Owner Jim “JR” Richardson will be present at the dinner and talking with individual tables throughout the evening. Call (214) 740-1985 for reservations. Bridge Bistro 921 N. Riverfront Blvd, Dallas.

Gene and Julie Gate’s restaurant Battuto Italian Kitchen is high on the restaurant hot list right now. The Italian restaurant located at Preston and Frankford just announced a new chef that will be creating new menu items, including a power lunch. I am thrilled to announce that chef Joel Harloff has officially taken the reigns.
You remember Harloff most recently from Ocho, as well as the Second Floor in the Westin Galleria. He also enjoyed accolades and 4 stars at Dali Wine bar as well as at the Melrose Hotel. Continue reading
I just spoke with the PR firm who represents Mi Piaci and they report that the Italian restaurant is now open at the Park Cities location. This is in the old Ocho location on Preston near Northwest Highway.
It was reported early on the Chef Joel Harloff would take on the Mi Piaci job after Ocho closed, but Harloff told us that he was not actually approached. Instead the executive chef at the Preston location is Elmer Pineda, the same as the original Mi Piaci on Montfort that is currently closed. You will remember that they were locked out due to a rent dispute, and the owners are currently in litigation. Continue reading

I suppose it wasn’t terribly clear a few days ago when we announced that Ocho would be transformed into an outpost for the loverly Mi Piaci, starring chef Joel Harloff as head toque. Well, let me make myself perfectly clear. It will happen in Park Cities sometime in August. Continue reading
