The Wonderful World of Pumpkins in Dallas and 10 Places to Find Them (And A Bonus To Boot)

pumpkinby Steven Doyle

We as Americans have an odd relationship with the pumpkin. Sure, we stock up on the squash as decor during the Halloween season (which according to retailers begins in August), and adorn our tables as centerpieces with them during the eventide of Thanksgiving, but as far as a true dining offering we fall short.  Continue reading

Eat Me: Kadu at Nora

kaduby Steven Doyle

This is the time of year when everything is infused with pumpkin. From lattes to beer, nothing escapes the gourd’s perfumed treatment. Personally, I prefer my pumpkin in pie form, or one of several delicious savory versions in Dallas such as the kadu at Nora on Greenville Avenue.

Kadu is one of Nora’s signature dishes that is made from sauteed pumpkin, garlic yogurt and an optional meat sauce. I always opt.  Continue reading

Celebrate On The Rooftop At Nora This Thursday Evening

noraby Steven Doyle

One of our favorite restaurants in Dallas sits proudly as one of the early adopters to the Lowest Greenville Avenue reboot, just across from Trader Joes. We have written about Nora numerous times, and love to pop in occasionally and check out the fantastic cocktails designed by Jason Kosmas, and the food made nightly by chef-owner Matt Pikar. The Afghan food is light, and ethereal, and extremely satisfying. Check out this visit, or this one.    Continue reading

One month later the music is a bit muted but the food is rolling strong in this beefed up outpost for the dearly loved North Dallas Afghan Grill.

Located on lowest Greenville Avenue in what is fast becoming a freshly revitalized area of Dallas, Nora is a little gem that is all nice and shiny. The same chef is working the grill as the North Dallas haunt, and they are using the same techniques. Giant flames from the largish gas grill kiss the lamb kabobs just as the grill does at Afghan. The flavors are very similar because the recipes are the same.      Continue reading

Grand Opening Fete Of Nora

by Steven Doyle

Last night we attended the grand opening celebration of Nora, the newest incarnation from that family that brought us the highly regarded restaurant Afghan Grill. The beautiful restaurant is long and lean inside with a nice sized patio that is inviting. The event was attended by friends and family of the owners, Rosalind Lynam and Matt Pikar. Rosalind whizzed about the restaurant making guests feel comfortable while husband Matt bounced between kitchen and tables.

The restaurant is located on Lowest Greenville Avenue and has actually been open for some weeks during an initial soft opening that has attracted many hungry guests who are already swearing by the food and recipes of Pikar. It is the quintessential family restaurant.   Continue reading
