Shell Shack Takes To The Road

mobile kitchen2.jpg

Since first opening its doors in 2013, Shell Shack has become a popular spot to convene over crabs and cold drinks. None of that is changing. In fact, there are now several locations across the DFW metroplex, making it easier than ever to dive into a pile of perfectly-seasoned seafood. And yet… Shell Shack is making it even more convenient to do so with its new Mobile Kitchen.

The Shell Shack Mobile Kitchen will bring all of your favorite foods right to your doorstep. Book it for parties, corporate events, on game day and any other time when an occasion would benefit from something delicious. To ensure that customers get exactly what their event needs, Shell Shack will customize the menu, stocking the kitchen with crabs, crawfish, catfish, oysters and sides per the guest’s request. Shell Shack opened its Uptown Dallas location in late 2013. And now, that flagship restaurant, which has since spawned five others, is packing up and moving to Henderson Avenue. The restaurant will occupy the former Mellow Mushroom space, which means more interior seating, a patio and a bigger parking lot. The Uptown building won’t go to waste, however, as Shell Shack founder Dallas Hale will be opening a new poke concept called Poke Go Go. Continue reading

Shell Shack Opening Second Location in Plano This March

shell shackby Steven Doyle

The much loved Uptown seafood haunt, Shell Shack, is set to open its door in Plano sometime in March. The latest location is situated at Park and the Tollway, a popular hot spot for many new restaurants. We spoke today with one of the partners of Shell Shack, Dallas Hale, and he said that the equipment has already been delivered, all licenses were in place (typically the largest obstacle for any bar or restaurant), and he is just waiting for the build out to be finished and to train a new staff. This is exciting news for those that love spicy crabs, shrimp, and crawfish.   Continue reading

crawfish2by Steven Doyle

We are at a slow start for crawfish season with the untimely cold snaps that are hitting the haunts where the mudbugs hang out. For now we will suffer through extremely medium crawfish, and that is OK for now. We have already been scoping out the latest hot spots for the 2014 season, and we have plenty to share. Notice a few newcomers on the list this year that will excite your palates with their rendition of the spicy crustaceans.

Here Is Our Restaurant Advice For This Weekend

DSC00730by Steven Doyle

You want to eat at all the hottest places in Dallas this weekend, well I have a few stand up choices. With all the new openings we all love to try and hit the new ones before going back to our old reliables. If you are like me you love to add new spots to the rotation of restaurants. I will admit to one major obsession, and for those that know me even in the slightest will guess that obsession has been Shell Shack on McKinney Avenue. Shell Shack has served me well nearly twenty times since opening less than two months ago. One really good reason is because their kitchen is open until 1am, except Sunday where they close at 10pm. Should you drop by there, ask for what I usually get, which is a pound of Dungeness doctored up with a spicy concoction they call ‘the kitchen sink’. There are different spice levels, and I typically go hot instead of the very hottest which is called diablo. You can add potatoes, corn and even a tasty sausage.

I have actually written very little about Shell Shack, unless you happen to follow me on Facebook where I beat down my friends weekly with enticing photos of crab. The whole affair can get quite messy, but they have hand washing machines on the ready.   Continue reading

First Look: Shell Shack For Late Night Crabs

DSC00725by Steven Doyle

Shell Shack is the newest addition to McKinney Avenue and is located where The Stand was at 2916 McKinney, and is owned by the same fellows that operate The Back 9 Bar and Grill in Addison. It is also located next to Pozo and Standard Pour, on the same side of the avenue. The new restaurant is a fantastic late night spot for cocktails, a few well chosen beers and seafood. The stars of the show are the variety of crabs, boiled in bag with a heavy hand on the spice rack for this crazy and delicious flavor that makes you want more. On our visit we did just that.     Continue reading
