Join Chefs Stephan Pyles and Vijay Sadhu as they pay homage to former downtown Dallas restaurant Samar by Stephan Pyles with a one-night-only pop-up at Stephan Pyles Flora Street Café. On Friday, December 27, 2019, Flora Street Café will be transformed into Chef Pyles’ celebrated “Silk Road-Spice Route”-inspired restaurant featuring a four-course menu with optional wine pairings, belly dancers, and an appearance by former Executive Chef of Samar Vijay Sadhu, one of the recent victors on “Beat Bobby Flay”. We recently announced that chef Vijay Sadhu was appointed chef at the curious restaurant in the W Hotel, Cook Hall. Curious because like many businesses in the Victory area it seems to have a bit of an identity crisis, but we feel that the addition of Sadhu will bring a welcome change of sophistication and international flair to Cook Hall.
The job of the chef at the W not only includes Cook Hall, but also room service for breakfast, lunch and dinner, service the Living Room Bar, as well as furnish meals for the residents. This is a big job that runs around the clock. Continue reading →
Vijay Sadhu began his culinary career in 1993 in Hyderabad, India at the ITC Grand Kakatiya Hotel & Tower where he learned the Royal Cuisine of India under Master Chefs Vikram Sihma and Irfan Qureshi. Locally, the chef Locally, Sadhu owned and operated the much ballyhooed Bukhara Grille, served as Executive Chef at the Clay Pit in Addison and Executive Chef of Samar by Stephan Pyles. More recently, he owned Pepper Smash, which he eventually sold to his partners. Since, Sadhu has been on a bit of a journey, travelling back to India and Singapore.
We caught up with Vijay Sadhu, who is now ready to open his next venture, and this one sounds incredibly different and super exciting. Look for Samudra to open next week where Sadhu will be serving what he calls Indian Ocean Coastal Cuisine. When we visited with the chef, he was sampling a few menu items, preparing for the opening. He was kind enough to show us around his new digs, which is in the former space occupied by Chennai Cafe. Chennai outgrew the Plano location, and took exit to Frisco. Continue reading →
Consider Pepper Smash to be Vijay Sadhu’s playful little cocktail den located in the Shops at Legacy in Plano. We took a look at the place while it was being built and gathered plenty of background, but today Pepper Smash is open and ready for business and we were hungry.
The atmosphere is built for comfort and the form takes full advantage of every nook in the smallish restaurant in true shotgun shack style. Hot woods and metals surround the atmosphere giving the new restaurant a clean updated vibe. A garage door allows the crowd to spill out onto the active parking lot inviting passerby’s to stop in for a look-see. Continue reading →
We checked out Vijay Sadhu’s latest dining concept yesterday in his old Sutra location in Plano’s Shops at Legacy. Pepper Smash looks to be a perfect combination of cool craft cocktails, tasty bites and a load of whimsical fun.
There is no doubt that Sadhu can cook. He has proven his chops time and again from his stints at restaurants such as Clay Pit in Addison (back when it was actually good), Bukhara Grill in Richardson, and the James Beard nominated Samar by Stephan Pyles. Continue reading →
