The Just Us League, a freestyle art squad that meets monthly around Deep Ellum, is currently looking for artists of all walks and styles who would like to get involved in their community art projects and monthly live art Meet-ups.
Originally founded with 11 artists coming together once a month to paint 11 co-lab art pieces that would be then be auctioned off at the Helping Art Live Benefit, which helps support new artists entering the industry, this community art group has grown larger and larger with each and every Meet-up.
They have already completed murals across Deep Ellum at Santiagos’ Taco Shop and Mama Mia’s Pizzeria as well as raising this single largest donation EVER for Sendai Japan (our Sister City) after the Tsunami thru their art show Flood Of Emotions.
Anchored by the Davies Brothers of Three-of-One Art, these events are always a low-key, laid back, and FUN way to get involved in beautifying the community, meeting other artists, getting inspired, and making some money as all artists are encouraged to bring their own merch table to display and sell their art work at each and every Just Us League Event. Each meeting showcases a specific theme and is announced weeks in advance giving each participant the opportunity to come up with ideas and inspirations for the night ahead.
Their most recent event for Art & Coffee took place last Friday at the Baylor Train Station and found hundreds of people out braving the heat in order to enjoying the amazing combination of live painting, music, poetry, and entertainment (provided by Dallas’ own mobile variety troupe the The Circus Freaks). With the theme of “community” already announced the resulting painting was a combination of all different styles and ideas that led to one amazing vision of a futuristic world and its inhabitants.
Participants used acrylics, pencils, pencils, spray paint, and air brushes to create this one of a kind piece of art work. Seeing the piece progress was a crowd favorite with many people circled around the feet of the Just Us League watching the 4-5 artists at a time working side-by-side on it and listening to them discuss, inspire, and critique themselves along the way.
You can find many of the Just Us League artists performing tonight at Trees for the Innerspace Soul Circus Burning Inspirations Event, which is a collection of Burning Man artists hoping to raise money for their annual trip, or at many of ArtLoveMagic’s monthly shows.
