I ran into the new Deep Ellum Brewing Company sales guru and occasional contributor to craveDFW, Tait Lifto, last evening while hoisting a pint at Common Table. Lifto shared this photo of what appears to be a Dallas beer summit meeting with local heads of state. This is Drew Huerter (DEBC), Charlie Papazian (beer guru), Dennis Wehrmann (Franconia), Wim Bens (Lakewood Brewing Company) and Michael Peticolas (Peticolas) all from left to right.
You may have heard of Papazian, he founded the Great American Beer Festival and is author of The Complete Joy of Home Brewing, which is the bible for every beer nerd.
Mister Lifto, who has the best name in the brewing business, also mentioned that Deep Ellum Brewing Company will premier a rye pilsner called Rye Pils at Strangeways on Groundhog Day (February 2, 2012). Watch for Punxsutawney Phil.
The pint I hoisted was the Peticolas Velvet Hammer which can now be sampled at Common Table, Trinity Hall, The Meddlesome Moth and Goodfriend. The Velvet Hammer is a dark red American Strong Ale that is slightly sweet and a definite kick at 9% ABV.
Look for Lakewood’s brew this Spring.
