So Many Ways to Celebrate National Sandwich Day in Dallas

by Steven Doyle

There is little to make a sandwich wonderful other than  fantastic bread, well thought out seasonings and spreads, and a filling that should be unsurpassed. When deciding a list of our favorites, it seemed a more daunting task than originally thought. So much more came to mind as the list was settled.

With all the heartache of selecting which can stand alone as the very best, we humbly submit in no particular order sandwiches that we enjoy. Tell us your favorites and we will run out today and sample one.  The big day is November 3rd, but we wanted you to try a few for lunch starting today. Continue reading

Dallas Dim Sum Guide

by Steven Doyle

Circulating steaming carts bearing light treasures all steamed, sautéed, fried and baked. Tiny packages of light bites meant to share and enjoy with friends and family, dim sum is the whimsical power brunch that will at once satisfy your curiosities and hunger.

What started out as a Cantonese supplement to tea service, much like tapas is to beer and wine, dim sum was brought to the west during the mid-19th century Chinese migration to the United States. Since then the tradition of dim sum for many has inspired what we know as brunch in modern times; a mid-morning meal fortified with friends and conversation.  Continue reading

Singing Praises of Off The Bone

by Steven Doyle

We often receive notes from readers dropping praises of their favorite BBQ haunts across the city where BBQ generally sleeps once the days brisket has been sold out at 1pm. However, for today, we bring you a spot that doesn’t sleep easily when there’s ribs to be smoked.         Continue reading

Five Food Trucks We Would Like To See In Dallas

by Steven Doyle

This week I have been thinking about food trucks and what we might be missing in the North Texas area. We are seeing more and more trucks roll through the streets since the city of Dallas has loosened its collar a bit with regards to the legalese of food truck mania.

Now it’s time we kick it up a bit like other cities and bring on some incredible trucks that we can chase with verve. Here is a list of five trucks we would like to see in Dallas. These are not far fetched since each of these trucks exist already.     Continue reading

Bunnies And Springtime Refresh The Plate

DSC01110by Steven Doyle

As the Easter holiday approaches we are reminded about renewal of the planet, fresh Spring daisies and bluebonnets, little baby chicks and bouncy bunny rabbits.  It is also a refreshing time for new restaurant menus as they roll out seasonal dishes to reflect the new found bounty. We are now seeing ramps, morels and even fiddlehead ferns gracing our plates. This is a fantastic time of year.

We would love to make a list of our favorite deviled eggs, which are everywhere now and a definite taste we want at Easter.  You will see a new version daily at Parigi on Oak Lawn. We also enjoy the deviled eggs at Nick and Sams where there are three versions on the same platter, but particularly enjoy the caviar topped eggs.   Continue reading

A Peek Down The Grill On The Alley

by Steven Doyle

How The Grill on the Alley escaped us in the past is beyond our comprehension. The restaurant located just outside the Dallas Galleria has quietly been serving up some classic dishes, along with some of the best steaks and seafood that can be found in Dallas for the past 9 years.

The restaurant, which originally hails from Beverly Hills, is a throw- back to more refined times when big dishes were served with expert care.       Continue reading
