Tortaco Opens in Fort Worth and Soon Dallas

Firebird Restaurant Group which currently operates the four award-winning concepts El Fenix, Meso Maya, Taqueria La Ventana and Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar, recently opened its latest, Tortaco Mesón Mescal.

The Kress Building was built for the S.H. Kress Co., the department store chain, which built the structure in 1936 and operated it until 1960. Continental National Bank used the upper three floors for a decade until the early 1980s. Those floors reopened in 2006 as 24 loft apartments. The Kress Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. Firebird, through its affiliated real estate company, Triton Commercial Real Estate, purchased the site in March 2015 and is totally renovating the building.

Firebird recently Tortaco Mesón Mescal, a casual restaurant with a chef-driven menu developed by Executive Chef Nico Sanchez. Tortaco features a full bar with signature cocktails. Tortaco is located at 2829 Morton Street, just east of Currie Street.

Look for the second Tortaco opening in Dallas later this month at 2100 Ross, downtown Dallas.  2100 Ross is where Stephan Pyles’ San Savaje was located which shuttered last year.
