Jake’s And Other Local East Dallas Businesses In Danger Of Closing

DISD is on a land grab in East Dallas, invoking eminent domain to purchase property along Skillman and Abrams where they plan to erect a new school. This action will displace small businesses including an automotive repair shop, Chevron, storage units, an antique mall and Jake’s Hamburgers. Ahh, you knew there would be a foodie twist to this madness.

The local homeowners association, Merrimon Park and University Manor, asked to meet with DISD as a fact-finding mission this Wednesday, January 11th at Jill Stone Elementary at 6pm.

Our tipster, Mark England said,”I am not sure how fair this is to kick these longtime businesses to the curb. I know that they are able to use eminent domain, but this piece of property just seems an odd location for a school and should be reserved for these businesses to maintain the integrity of the neighborhood”.

Calls to DISD and Jake’s went unanswered but we will report back any findings after the meeting tomorrow. Now to go grab a burger.
