Friday’s Five Fabulous Food Finds

by Steven Doyle

Each week we scour the city in search of the very best Dallas has to offer. We check into restaurants both old and new looking for interesting food to discuss with you so you can make handy decision when dining out.

We do not necessarily write up each item we enjoy, and often have photos that we will save for another week. However, we will share some of the most awe-inspiring dishes on Friday in what we like to call Friday’s Five Fabulous Food Finds.

Walk with us as we share this week’s five.

Meet the Lemongrass Pork Banh Mi from the new Sandwich Hag (oh, that name makes me giggle) located at 1902 South Lamar. The hag’s real name is Reyna Duong, and she is quite lovely plus makes a killer sandwich. Best Banh Mi ever.

The chicken pot pie at the Grill on the Alley in the Galleria is bigger than your head. Not only is it large, but delicious. Don’t consider sharing this dish with anyone, although it could feed a family of four.

We’ve boasted about this wonder before, but when we heard the words Mike Anderson BBQ we had to blaze a trail to Harry Hines to pick up a handful of these brisket stuffed, bacon wrapped jalapenos. They are smoked and delightful. How many fits in one adult hand? One.

This giant taco from Ssahm BBQ Truck is chockfull of Jasmine Rice, Sesame Soy Vinaigrette Salad,  Monterey Jack & Cheddar Cheese,  Cilantro & Onion, Caramelized Kimchee,  Korean Salsa Roja, Spicy Mayo and served on 12″ Flour Tortilla. That is a mouthful to taste and a mouthful to say.

Haven’t been to FarmByrd in Plano yet? The fried chicken rocks, as does the rotisserie, but today they have a Friday special called the TexiMelt made with crispy tenders, chipotle cheese, green chiles, jalapeño & avocado ranch between TX toast. Loving it!
