Cosmetic surgery was once thought to be for people in their 50s, 60s, and beyond who wanted to have a breath of fresh air bestowed upon them, sending them back in time by making them look young and beautiful again. However, in recent years, millennials have been seeking out cosmetic enhancements, too. This has been partly due to social media and influencers who have proudly boasted their before and after surgery looks. Everything from Botox and lip injections to procedures aimed at fixing the eyebrows, noses, cheeks, jaws, and other body parts.

There are a lot of different procedures out there, but some are more popular than others. Below we will look at the 8 most popular cosmetic enhancement procedures for millennials according to Dr. Raj, a plastic surgeon in Dallas Texas.

Botox

Botox has been one of the most popular procedures with the older generations, so it’s no surprise that it’s also popular amongst millennials. Botox is injected into the skin, primarily on the face, to briefly freeze facial muscles. This helps in reducing wrinkles and fine lines, keeping the skin looking fresh and young.

Although Botox has been popular for some time among 50- and 60-year-old’s, those in their 20s and 30s are now seeing the usefulness that this procedure can have. For millennials, having Botox injected into their skin before wrinkles begin to develop can stop them from happening in the first place.

Not only is Botox extremely effective, but it is also inexpensive and does not require a recovery time, so those who have this procedure done can get back to their normal lives immediately after.

An estimate of 4.5 Botox procedures is performed per year in the US, with many of those patients being between the ages of 19 and 34.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are similar to Botox in that they require little recovery time, which makes them another favorite amongst the younger generations who don’t want to spend weeks in recovery-mode.  These fillers are effective in revitalizing the face by improving volume and fullness to enrich facial contouring. Dermal fillers are quick to work, offering instant results, and affordable.

Also, Dermal fillers are temporary which means that patients can try out various looks to figure out which one they like the most.

Microneedling

Who needs those Instagram and Snapchat filters when you have microneedling?

Another non-invasive procedure that offers immediate results and no recovery time, microneedling is when radiofrequency energy is used to stimulate collagen in order to heal the body and regenerate the skin. The end result is a softer and firmer skin, decreased pore size, and an enhanced skin tone.

Laser Treatments

Technology has come a long way, even in the cosmetic surgery world. Lasers are often used to treat an array of medical problems from carpal tunnel to eye problems and are now even used to stop signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines.

Laser treatments aren’t just good for eliminating wrinkles, though. They also help with acne scars, skin redness, sun damage, and more. With so many treatments offered by laser devices, millennials feel as though they finally have some power in regard to their skin problems.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, especially non-surgical rhinoplasty, has become another favorite of millennials as well. While rhinoplasty in general may seem too radical and invasive for many young adults, non-surgical rhinoplasty can help in improving the features of their noses. This procedure comes with little side effects and recovery time.

However, the results of a non-invasive rhinoplasty are only temporary. Still, it allows for patients to see the results of a normal rhinoplasty which will help them in determining whether or not they want the actual surgery done in the future. With non-invasive rhinoplasty, hyaluronic acid fillers are injected in order to make minor improvements and structural changes to the nose.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, similar to Botox, is popular with all generational groups; however, it has more recently risen in popularity among younger women, especially those who have had children or have lost a substantial amount of weight. When a woman’s body goes through such drastic changes either during childbirth or weight loss, the breasts, unfortunately, lose a lot of their shape.

That’s where breast augmentation comes in. It helps to better the shape of their breasts, giving them back confidence in their bodies.

While breast augmentation was once considered plastic-looking and often left breasts oversized, with recent advancements in the medical world, having this procedure done nowadays will give patients a subtler and more organic look.

Breast Reduction

Ariel Winters, a young actress known for her role on Modern Family, promoted breast reduction surgery when she underwent the procedure to reduce her own breast size. Since then, she has boasted about the benefits of this procedure on both her health and her mental well-being.

Large busts often result in back and neck problems and can make exercising a tedious task. That’s why this surgery is popular among young millennial females who want to slim down their breasts to allow them the chance of having an active lifestyle with no worry of back and neck pain.

Liposuction

Around 25% of millennials make up the procedure-rate for liposuctions and many believe that social media has played a significant role in the increased popularity of this cosmetic surgery. Liposuction is not ideal for everyone, though, and patients are advised to do their research and have realistic expectations when it comes to the results of having a liposuction done.

With that said, liposuction is recommended for patients who are close to their ideal body weight but are unable to shed stubborn fat pockets in their belly, buttocks, sides, etc.

For millennials, liposuction has the best results. Since their bodies are still young, their skin is still elastic and flexible which makes it so that your skin will cling to the surgical enhancements.

Conclusion

There are several cosmetic procedures available today and the procedures mentioned above are some of the more common ones, especially among millennials. Cosmetic surgery, once more taboo than it is today, has been on a continuous rise in popularity among all generations and it looks like this trend will be sticking around for the foreseeable future. Whether you’re looking to get a non-invasive treatment like Botox or something more surgical like a rhinoplasty or liposuction, these procedures can be of great benefit, not just to your overall confidence and physical appearance but to your mental health and even your physical health, too.
