Gravy Up at Jonathon’s

Separated by a small stretch of road Jonathon and Christine Erdeljac have set up their gravy kingdom in Oak Cliff where they reign as King and Queen of Gravy. Not a bad title if indeed you plan on selling plates of chicken fried steak and giant biscuits. And they do sell enough of these comforting dishes at their restaurants, Jonathon’s Diner and the fresh location on Forest Lane.

As we celebrate the famed Texas-sized dish, the chicken fried steak, no journey of discovery would be complete without paying homage to the King.

The chicken and waffles is stuff of legend in Oak Cliff, and you may order with or without gravy, but gravy is one of the food groups at Jonathon’s. The menu is also heavy on breakfast, which once the clock hits noon it instantly should be called brunch. And if it is late at night, we do the “breakfast for dinner” thing.

Look for migas with housemade chorizo, a country Benedict served with a generous supply of creamed pepper gravy, and of course chicken fried steak with our without eggs your way.

When selecting your CFS this Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day (October 26th) think about a short trek to visit with the King.
