Red River Rivalry at the State Fair of Texas

The Allstate Red River Rivalry, featuring the University of Texas Longhorns vs. the University of Oklahoma Sooners, has been a State Fair tradition since 1929. In 2024, it marks the 95th consecutive matchup at the fair, now enhanced by both teams being part of the NCAA Southeastern Conference (SEC). Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. Central Time, and fans are encouraged to arrive early for security checks and to enjoy the fair.

Cotton Bowl Stadium Renovations

Cotton Bowl Stadium is undergoing a $140 million renovation aimed at improving the fan experience. These upgrades include wider concourses, new escalators, enhanced concessions, and more hospitality areas. The first phase will be completed by September 2025, with further renovations planned for 2034. The Red River Rivalry will remain at the Cotton Bowl through 2036.

New Tradition: Red River Rivalry Flag

A new tradition begins with the Red River Rivalry Flag, showcasing the previous year’s winner displayed near the Top o’ Texas Tower. The winning team’s flag will be raised post-game, celebrating the rivalry’s spirit.

Game Day Reminders (October 12, 2024)

  • Arrival: The fair opens at 7:00 a.m. for early arrivals.
  • Game Tickets: Tickets include fair admission. Download them in advance for easy access.
  • Parking: Use designated parking lots and consider the exit 48A for quicker access.
  • Security: A clear bag policy is in effect. Check bag size restrictions (max 9”x10”x12”).
  • Transportation: DART services will be busier; plan accordingly.
