Chef John Tesar, known for his culinary expertise and innovative approach to steakhouse dining, will be one of the stars of Food Network’s House of Knives. This new competition series brings together top chefs to battle it out for a $100,000 grand prize, and Tesar’s inclusion was almost a given. His prestigious restaurants—Knife, Knife Burger, and Knife and Spoon—are all named after the very kitchen tool the show celebrates, making him a perfect fit for the series.
Tesar’s career spans over four decades, starting in New York City where he worked at renowned restaurants such as the Supper Club alongside Anthony Bourdain. After stints in Las Vegas, Tesar relocated to Dallas in 2006, where he made a lasting impact on the city’s evolving dining scene. In 2022, Knife and Spoon, located at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, earned a Michelin star, and Tesar is now working toward a Michelin star for his upcoming Texas-based Knife Steak and Seafood. But before chasing that honor, Tesar will compete for a chance to win the $100,000 prize on House of Knives.
The competition in House of Knives is fierce, with nine chefs in total, although only six compete at a time. Hosted by Scott Conant, the series will feature chefs showcasing their culinary skills using a signature ingredient in each episode. Their creations must impress the “Culinary Council,” made up of Conant, Judy Joo, and Marcus Samuelsson. The winning chef each week will sit on the “throne” as the ruler of that episode, while the least successful chef will be banished. In each round, the chef who displays the best culinary mastery will earn a competitive advantage.
Although it’s not yet clear whether Tesar will be part of the opening competition or join after an elimination, viewers can catch the series premiere on Tuesday, March 18, at 9 p.m. CST on Food Network. The show will air weekly, culminating in a winner being crowned on May 6. For fans of Tesar and the culinary world, House of Knives promises to be an exciting ride.
