Lynn Crossett, Law Professor by Day, Americana Songsmith by Soul – Album Release Show at Opening Bell Coffee

Splitting his time between the wide skies of Central Texas and the golden coastlines of Southern California, Lynn Crossett brings a heartfelt, songwriting-driven spirit to the Indie Americana music scene. His latest album, In the Company of a Song—produced by Grammy-winning alt-country legend Lloyd Maines—debuted at No. 6 on the Top 50 Americana Country Album Chart and held strong in the Top 10 for eight weeks. The album remained on various Top 50 charts, including Americana Country, Country, and Texas Albums, for an impressive sixteen weeks.

Two standout tracks, “California Ride” and “Child Support Trips,” were even on the ballot for nomination consideration in three categories for the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards: Best Americana Performance, Best American Roots Performance, and Best American Roots Song.

Lynn’s path to music wasn’t the typical “born-with-a-guitar” story. Raised without any direct musical influence, he didn’t pick up a guitar until his late teens. But when he did, it was a revelation. “I finally demystified it,” he says. “Most of the stuff I liked was just three or four chords. I realized I could actually play these songs, and almost immediately started writing my own.” That creative spark has powered his musical journey ever since.

At the same time, Lynn pursued another passion: the law. He began writing songs during his college years in Austin, even as he launched a successful career in legal academia. These days, he lives in San Marcos, Texas, where he teaches full-time as a law professor at Texas State University—balancing two lives with one central thread: storytelling.

Though he’s worked to grow as a musician and vocalist, songwriting remains the heart of what he does. “The artists I admire most are strong songwriters,” Lynn explains. “They may not have traditionally ‘great’ voices, but they tell incredible stories through song. I think I identify with that kind of artist more than any other.”

With rootsy melodies, authentic lyrics, and a genuine passion for crafting songs that resonate, Lynn Crossett proves that it’s never too late to follow the road to music—even if it runs parallel to a very different kind of career.

Lynn Crossett invites you to enjoy his album release show June 14th at 8:00 to 9:30. Opening Bell Coffee, 1409 Botham Jean Blvd, Dallas.
