Explore Nature and Art in a Welcoming Environment at the Amon Carter Museum

This August, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art invites neurodivergent adults and their guests to enjoy an evening of connection, exploration, and creativity. Meet Up at the Museum: Living on the Land takes place Thursday, August 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., offering a free, sensory-friendly drop-in event in a relaxed and inclusive setting.

Guests can explore the intersection of art and science—botany, geology, and biology—through the museum’s collections and exhibitions. Hands-on art-making activities inspired by the land will be available, along with opportunities to meet others and engage in thoughtful conversation throughout the galleries.

Local nature experts will enrich the experience: the Botanical Research Institute of Texas Herbarium will present plant specimens from their teaching collection, and the Carter’s Library and Archives will showcase books, maps, prints, and rare resources highlighting the natural history of the United States.

This event is designed for neurodivergent adults of all abilities and their families, with a focus on welcoming individuals with autism. For over a decade, the Carter has been dedicated to accessibility, offering resources like tactile tools, large-print labels, and more to ensure a museum experience that’s open to everyone.
