Meals with Meaning Celebrates Two Years and 50,000 Meals with a Fort Worth Dinner on July 12

Two years ago, Kirk Oldham started Meals with Meaning with a simple premise: chef-prepared meals for people who are food insecure, distributed through a network of Fort Worth chefs, volunteers, and community partners who believe that food dignity matters as much as food access. On July 12, the nonprofit celebrates its second anniversary and a milestone that took some effort to reach — 50,000 meals donated throughout Tarrant County.

The dinner takes place at Brewed, the beloved Near Southside brunch and coffee institution at 801 W. Magnolia Avenue, which has been one of Meals with Meaning’s most consistent partners since the supper club series launched. The evening is a six-course collaborative dinner prepared by Chef Steve Hoogeboom of 61 Osteria and Chef Reggie Robinson of LilBoyBlueBBQ — two Fort Worth chefs who between them cover both the refined European kitchen and the smoke-and-fire tradition that defines Texas barbecue at its most personal. Jon Bonnell, the icon of Fort Worth fine dining, will serve as keynote speaker. Leon King provides the music.

The evening is both a celebration and a reckoning — a chance to honor the chefs, volunteers, donors, and community members who have made the work possible, and a look ahead at where Meals with Meaning goes from here. Oldham’s long-term vision is for the nonprofit to function as a catering operation that channels chef-prepared meals directly to those who are food insecure, creating a sustainable model that puts good food on the table for people who wouldn’t otherwise have access to it.

If you’ve been following Hao Tran’s story — and if you read her recent interview with us, you have — you know she has been one of Meals with Meaning’s most committed supporters from the beginning, partnering with the organization through her Hao’s Grocery & Café on Magnolia and volunteering throughout the nonprofit’s first year. The Meals with Meaning supper club has been running monthly, and the July 12 anniversary dinner is the biggest event in the organization’s short but consequential history.
