Win Dinner For Two At Del Frisco

Del Frisco is definitely a Dallas institution and they have been on our radar since the playful sommelier Jennifer Jaco started working there just over one month ago.  But before Jaco’s arrival we alwayed enjoyed chatting with chef David Holben who’s home kitchen is the Dallas location on Spring Valley.

Holben has come up with a summer promotion that should bring most beef lovers into the restaurant and it is a steal.  They call this the Power Couple menu and there are more than a few great choices in sides and such, but always includes a filet and crab cake. For $99.   Continue reading

The Great Hico Steak Cook-Off

For those with a foodie type of bucket list, there are more than a few hot events that should top that list. Certainly Terlingua Chili Cook-off, WurstFest in New Braunfels, the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival and Hico’s Texas Steak Cook-off,  if the latter has escaped your radar check out scenes from the annual event here.

The event, which is held Saturday, May 19th, 2012 this year,  has been covered annually by the Food Network and is the largest steak cook-off in the Southwest, drawing thousands of tourists from all over the country. Hico is just 90 minutes southwest of the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex and approximately two hours north of Austin on scenic US 281.      Continue reading

Sullivans Steak and Cake? Yes, Please

Starting today and extending through the month of April, Sullivan’s Steakhouse will be running a Steak and Cake special where you can get an 8 oz. filet, a 4 oz. crab cake and either a wedge or Caesar salad, all for $39. I was invited to come check this out.

Sullivan’s is more like 3 different establishments under one roof: a bar/patio, a dining room and a lounge called Ringside. I showed up a bit early so I could get a feel for the restaurant and the bar was popping. Their signature cocktail is the Knockout, a martini made from Smirnoff Orange Vodka infused with fresh pineapple with an orange twist. I was worried that it would be too sweet but it tasted exactly like fresh cut pineapple with a punch. This will go great sitting out on the patio, listening to the live music. But I am here for the food.    Continue reading
