photo 5by Alex “Moose” Perez

When you think of baseball and Food Trucks, somehow it just sounds good together.  This past weekend that’s exactly what took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington – The 2nd Annual Spring Texas Food Truckin’ Fest.  The event was benefiting Tarrant Area Food Bank and was sponsored by Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Upon my arrival on Friday, I was taken back by the amount of food trucks that were already present.     Continue reading →

Texas Burrito Company Hits The Streets Of Dallas

DSC09974

by Steven Doyle

I want to like food trucks. We have a small handful of very good trucks, but for the most part Dallas is bereft of the really good stuff. I would love to see some incredible ethnic trucks like the ones found across the country. I enjoyed East Side King in Austin run by Paul Qui that jams out fried potato noodles with pork and kimchi stew, mapo tofu chili, a pork melt and a pork chop sandwich. Dallas does have good trucks but would love to see more ethnicity to help stand out in a sea of burgers and pizza.     Continue reading →

We Love The Truck Yard For So Many Reasons

DSC00820by Steven Doyle

The Truck Yard is an overwhelming smash success you go by mere body count each night, including those precarious evenings when most stay huddled at home watching television, or manicuring their cats. Last evening we checked out the food truck park located on the sizzling hot Lowest Greenville Avenue area directly south of Trader Joes on Sears Street. The recent flack that Dallas Morning News critic shoveled at the venue made us even more excited to sit and sip, since we seem to have polar opposite ideas on what is fun to do and chew in Dallas.

The ice cream vendor Carnival Barker was easily found directly at the front facing Trader Joes just under the giant neon ice cream cone. Plenty of guests were able to locate and devour the house-made ice cream as when we visited about 7pm last night the owner was fresh out of product. Aaron Barker stated that he has been upping the amount of ice cream he makes each day and is now looking for more equipment to keep up with demand. He did have a handful of frozen bananas for sale, and we all know that there is always money in the banana stand.  We have tasted the Barker ice cream on numerous occasions and love the stuff. Plenty of fun, inventive flavors when they are in stock. Continue reading →

Cajun Tailgators To Open In Plano

cajunby Steven Doyle

Cajun Tailgators, the Louisiana-inspired food truck is going brick and mortar on us and will open at their  location in downtown Plano at 1112 E 15th Street sometime in November. Owned and operated by Jason Key and Ann Keady,  their menu is revolving, but mainstays include items such as gumbo, jambalaya, and crawfish etouffee.

Specialty items that they are most famous for include favorites such as their crawfish pistolette which is a French roll that is fried and filled with cheese, spices and crawfish,  deep fried boudin balls, and their freshly made Natchitoches meat pies.    Continue reading →

I didn’t want to bury the story that Isaac Rousso gave us on yesterday’s craveRADIO show. While discussing his many ventures, including the State Fair, his food truck, and now the Draught House during Addison’s Oktoberfest, he leaked out the fact that he will actually be opening a fast casual Cuban restaurant and is currently looking for a space somewhere in Dallas.

Soon you will have those amazing Cuban sandwiches every day.

God bless you, Isaac.

tacosby Steven Doyle

The tacos and beer lovers of the North Texas will be congregating tonight at  Four Corners Brewing Company for their first ever TacoCon (Cerveza).  This means free admission to Four Corners in Trinity Groves, plenty of taco trucks serving up the finest available on wheels, and plenty of beer provided by the brewery. The event is free, the beer and tacos are not. If this wasn’t enough to point your car to Trinity Groves tonight, there will also be a uber cool band playing for the crowd, which is expected to reach nearly 1,000 strong.    Continue reading →

Carrollton Herrera’s Closes But Look For Their Food Truck Very Soon

herrerasby Steven Doyle

It has been an odd day of messages about a variety of restaurants closing and chefs on the move. We just caught wind of a few more. Herrera’s in Carrollton on Beltline is no more. This is a family operation where different members run the various locations, and this closing does not affect others stores in the Dallas area. Certainly one of Dallas’ favorite Tex Mex spots, this particular owner is regrouping. Look for a Herrera’s food truck to hit the streets soon. This can only be good information.      Continue reading →
