Bombay Street Food Truck Brings A Dosa Of Good Tidings And Great Joy

dosa1by Steven Doyle

One of favorite food trucks in Dallas is the Bombay Street Food and we havr a bizarre obsession with its menu. The truck serves 100% vegan dosas and other interesting Indian offerings.

A dosa is a versatile Southern Indian street food that is prepared with a crispy crepe-like shell made of rice and lentils, and filled with ingredients that can be served with varying spice levels. This makes for an interesting and practical offering for a food truck, and one that fills a niche the Dallas area desperately needed.   Continue reading

Meet The Latest Dallas BBQ Food Truck, Not Just Q

DSC01506by Steven Doyle

I sat down recently with Eric Hansen and Robert Carter who together just started a new food truck business called Not Just Q. Curious name, but certainly we could assume they are doing BBQ and plenty more. These are both interesting fellows, with different backgrounds and personalities that seem to make it work.

Eric Hansen is classically trained at Cordon Bleu and hails from the Kansas City area. Eric has worked at restaurants and been in the business since he was 11 years old.  Being from Kansas City that means pork shoulders, ribs and plenty of sauce to soak up the meat. Robert Carter has a background in psychology and worked with children. It was after many sleepless nights that he abandoned his life’s work for the restaurant industry. He lists a series of high profile BBQ legends including Big Al’s, Eddie Deen and most recently Mike Anderson.    Continue reading

When you think of baseball and Food Trucks, somehow it just sounds good together.  This past weekend that’s exactly what took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington – The 2nd Annual Spring Texas Food Truckin’ Fest.  The event was benefiting Tarrant Area Food Bank and was sponsored by Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Upon my arrival on Friday, I was taken back by the amount of food trucks that were already present.     Continue reading

Texas Burrito Company Hits The Streets Of Dallas

DSC09974

by Steven Doyle

I want to like food trucks. We have a small handful of very good trucks, but for the most part Dallas is bereft of the really good stuff. I would love to see some incredible ethnic trucks like the ones found across the country. I enjoyed East Side King in Austin run by Paul Qui that jams out fried potato noodles with pork and kimchi stew, mapo tofu chili, a pork melt and a pork chop sandwich. Dallas does have good trucks but would love to see more ethnicity to help stand out in a sea of burgers and pizza.     Continue reading

We Love The Truck Yard For So Many Reasons

DSC00820by Steven Doyle

The Truck Yard is an overwhelming smash success you go by mere body count each night, including those precarious evenings when most stay huddled at home watching television, or manicuring their cats. Last evening we checked out the food truck park located on the sizzling hot Lowest Greenville Avenue area directly south of Trader Joes on Sears Street. The recent flack that Dallas Morning News critic shoveled at the venue made us even more excited to sit and sip, since we seem to have polar opposite ideas on what is fun to do and chew in Dallas.

The ice cream vendor Carnival Barker was easily found directly at the front facing Trader Joes just under the giant neon ice cream cone. Plenty of guests were able to locate and devour the house-made ice cream as when we visited about 7pm last night the owner was fresh out of product. Aaron Barker stated that he has been upping the amount of ice cream he makes each day and is now looking for more equipment to keep up with demand. He did have a handful of frozen bananas for sale, and we all know that there is always money in the banana stand.  We have tasted the Barker ice cream on numerous occasions and love the stuff. Plenty of fun, inventive flavors when they are in stock. Continue reading
