Two Hot Dallas Burgers Being Delivered To Lakewood

As the Lakewood community continues its growth a few new and familiar Dallas area restaurants have staked claim on some highly visible real estate. Interesting enough the new restaurants are being careful to keep things interesting enough for the neighborhood, and even giving the new spots a warm enough feel that will give an impression that the restaurants have always belonged to their new digs.

There are two particular burger outlets that will give pause to the local fan. Liberty Burger should be open very soon and co-owner Mariel Street is staying clear of any semblance of being a chain. Even though there are currently only two of the burger restaurants, we know there are plenty on the way including the Dallas Farmers Market. Continue reading →

Lakewood Brewing Company Bottled Beer Guide

2012 was a fantastic year for the Dallas craft brew scene. So many up and coming brewers took to the streets replacing taps across North Texas and beyond. Now I know the electric thrill that must have been buzzing during the great space race to see which country might land on the moon. In the beer world we all end up being winners.

This week Lakewood Brewing Company shipped their first ration of bottles to area stores and met with great success. We created a buying guide for those wanting to sample a few bottles this weekend. Continue reading →

Balcony Club Celebrates 25th Anniversary

More than two decades ago, Dallas resident Tommy Stanco, an avid gourmet cook and former professional children’s entertainer, combined his love of hospitality and music to create an aura that would transform Lakewood’s Balcony Club from a simple piano bar to a haven for live music and Texas-sized camaraderie featuring as many as 70 bands each month.

Stanco – who went to work at The Balcony Club as a bartender on Valentine’s Day 1990 and bought the place from original owners Burke and Jo Barr – has been its sole owner for over twenty years. Recently, he added his own band to the roster of regulars on the club’s calendar. Continue reading →

Matt’s Re-Opens

For those that have been missing their weekly Matt’s fix, the restaurant opens back up tomorrow (Saturday, September 22, 2012) at 11am. Matt’s Rancho Martinez closed back in February of 2012 to relocate after losing their lease at the historic Lakewood location on La Vista Drive and was quickly replaced by the local chain Mi Cocina.

Now you can get your Bob Armstrong fix and one of those killer margaritas at 1904 Skillman Ave.
