We Love Being In The Dog Haus

DSC02861by Steven Doyle

It was just a few years ago that hot dogs were quite the fashion plate, but competition was fierce and as fast as many arrived on the scene, all delicious and crave worthy, they vanished seemingly overnight. A fairly new doggery to the Dallas landscape that has been a proven concept for eight years which first opened in Pasadena made its entry this past year and has been building a strong following in Richardson. Meet Dog Haus.  Continue reading

Eat Me: Cơm Gà Xối Mỡ at Pho Pasteur

cornishby Steven Doyle

There are so many wonderful dishes to be found at the Richardson pho staple restaurant, Pho Pasteur. You will certainly enjoy the bun mang vit, duck soup to you and me, or the grilled pork chop adorned with a fried egg. But today we wish to order the Cơm Gà Xối Mỡ, or simply a Cornish hen and rice.

The tiny hen is plump with juicy meat, and a deliciously crisped outer layer that quickly relents with each bite. This dish pairs perfectly with the fresh spring rolls.   Continue reading

Ten50 BBQ Smoking on Three Years

ten3by Steven Doyle

Ten50 BBQ in Richardson is about to celebrate three years of smoke later this summer after already going through a series of makeovers, most notably the bar which is in sprite condition with its long row of stools ready to BBQ and beer its guests.

General BBQ wisdom sets sites on the pork ribs at Ten50, where they serve tender St Louis style which carries more meat-to-bone ratio than say baby backs, but with the same luster and bite. Hickory is the wood of choice, but we did spot a stack of post oak which is known for its long burning flavorful hard smoke.  Continue reading

Jeng Chi Adds Full Service Bar

jc1by Steven Doyle  photos by Suzi Migdol

Opening in 1990 Jeng Chi has a flair for Chinese that is rarely found in Dallas. So many Chinese restaurants are geared towards the American sensibility and loses something in the translation, but Jeng Chi stays true and we profit from this ideal.

A recent visit found a new twist to the restaurant which is located in Richardson’s Little China on Greenville Avenue near Main. Jeng Chi is no stranger to change, first opening a few doors down from its current 8,300 square feet of dining room and kitchen. Originally guests had but a few seats to choose from. Now banquets are served handily, and large celebrations are enjoyed at Jeng Chi. The latest addition is their full service bar.   Continue reading

First Look: Wokk Asian Cookhouse

dsc00470by Steven Doyle

A new fast-casual popped up recently in Richardson and caught our eye as we were passing through the busy neighborhood. Wokk Asian Cookhouse is now open and serving familiar but tasty versions of old favorites using fresh and local ingredients.

Wokk was created by a father and son team who were looking for a New Asian type of cooking taking old school dishes to another level. So you will find your Kung Pao and Orange Chicken, but with stronger and more refined flavors not often found in walk-up counter service.   Continue reading

DSC09595

Bangkok at Beltline is a second location for restaurateurs and sweet couple Joe and Sunny Pumphaung.  Bangkok at Beltline is a casual Thai restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisines with an added fun and elegant Thai twist to the traditional afternoon tea on Saturdays.

Expect the usual traditional Thai noodle, curry and rice dishes like their popular Pad Thai or crabmeat (real crabmeat) fried rice on the menu but also Afternoon Thai Tea.  This concept was their way of serving Thai food in a modern style but enjoyed in a classic manner.  Guests can truly sit back and enjoy Thai teas and food.     Continue reading
