Four Shuck and Jive Greenville Break-Ins Total Over $20k in Losses, You Can Help

Shuck and Jive is a really cool local hang out. I have personally made my way there many times over the years and always have a good meal, a very cold beer and a “Cheers” type of an afternoon each time with spirited conversation with the bartenders and patrons alike.

There are times when we must pay back for our good fortune and great times, and today I am calling for just such an occasion. In the last month Shuck and Jive on Greenville has been burglarized four times. Four times with a total loss of over $20,000. That is a huge poke in the eye for a small restaurant like Shuck and Jive.      Continue reading →

Tesar Rolls Out Lunch And Brunch At Spoon And It Is Breathtaking

Chef John Tesar will debut lunch and brunch service at his four-star seafood restaurant in Dallas’ Preston Center, Spoon Bar & Kitchen, on Sunday, May 12th. Kicking off with a special Mother’s Day brunch menu, Spoon will open for weekday lunch and Sunday brunch. Earlier this week Tesar opened his doors at noon for a special media tasting, and we have some good news: Spoon is just as good during the day as it is in the evening.

For brunch, expect to see dishes that highlighting fresh, sustainable seafood such as smoked salmon and caviar omelet, soft shell crab BLT, and orange dusted lobster and olive oil-poached artichokes.  The lineup will also include some non-fish dishes such as eggs royal, steak and eggs, and hazelnut brioche French toast with Irish bacon and Vermont maple syrup.   Continue reading →

Fresh Halibut At Sea Breeze Tonight

Rick Oruch at Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill sends word that he received his first wild Alaskan Halibut of the season – days ahead of the rest of the market. Sometimes it’s all about connections I suppose. Rick and the team just cut into this big boy .. They have it in the fish market for $32.99/lb, and should have Halibut and chips on the menu for $21.99 by tonight. Sea Breeze is our go to Seafood Market in Plano, and they always have a nice selection plus some tasty fare on the menu.

20 Feet Seafood Joint Floats Our Boat

All good things are worth the wait, and for seafood lovers in East Dallas this never rang truer than for 20 Feet Seafood Joint owned and operated by Marc Cassel and his lovely chef-partner Susan Fries, to whom he is engaged. The tiny restaurant located next to two East Dallas sweethearts, Good 2 Go Taco and Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House has already made quite the splash with local residents and foodmongers. Swim Into Sea Breeze For A Fantastic Seafood Selection

The seafood revolution in Dallas continues strong and we are particularly happy to see this strong trend continue to grow. With more restaurants sourcing amazing oysters from all coastal waters in the US, the selection has never been greater. Many restaurants can serve up fish selections like tilapia and salmon, but these can be the most uninteresting selections when so much more is being brought into our city.

One of the bright stars in this trend is Sea Breeze in Plano. What started as a small market and an even smaller restaurant with counter service, Sea Breeze recently expanded to a full-sized concern with table service and even more room for fresh fish to take home.   Continue reading →

TJ’s Goes French For A Night

Ever since opening his Oak Lawn location in 2012, TJ’s Fresh Seafood Market has been hosting specialty dinners that feature seafood prepared in worldly ways and paired with wines of that region. Tuesday evening owner and purveyor Jon Alexis threw a French Style seven-course dinner to an excited and eager full house.

For each course Jon described the wine pairing, while Executive Chef Scott Hoffner discussed the ingredients and execution of the dish.  A main supplier of TJ’s, whose Red Grouper was featured in the 3rd course, was on site to tell the diners how Jon decides what fish to select (Jon can be quite picky), the state of sustainability in our oceans today, and the unique fish that often get thrown away in the U.S. while it is considered a delicacy (and pricey!) overseas.  Continue reading →
