Eat Me: Pyramid’s Bone-In Rib Eye

DSC01491by Steven Doyle

Texas is beef country, and Dallas sits directly in the heart of all things steak related. We love our beef, and have plenty of options when it comes to dining on giant haunches of cattle. Recently we dined at the Pyramid Room located in the Fairmont and tackled the 32 ounce bone-in rib eye, which is anything but subtle. But table-side, the chef can make an easy mark on the steak and allow sharing so you can also enjoy other aspects of the new menu.

Check this out, and go eat one for yourself.    Continue reading →

Knife Opening May 15 And Here Is What You Want To Order First

DSC01421by Steven Doyle

Last evening John Tesar hosted a group of media types from around the DFW area to check out his new digs at Knife located in the Hotel Palomar. We were all plenty excited, and the group was much larger than you might expect for a pre-opening sneak peek. It is always fantastic to chat up the ever charming chef Tesar as he spins his tales in expert mode. He is always excited, and his eyes grow larger when he has something terrific to discuss. Last night it was about beef.

Knife, which will open possibly May 15, 2014, is all about the meat. Just as Tesar’s other highfalutin restaurant Spoon is all about seafood, which he does ever-so-deftly, the chef now gets to play with beef. Not long after arriving, Tesar moved me towards the front of the building, where the entrance is located and the doorway just underneath the newly installed signage for Knife. As you make your way into the front door you will notice a small room with a large view. It was empty last night, but the little apartment will play host to aging beef when the restaurant finally opens for business. Here you will be able to peer in and spot your dinner; in this case we are talking the holy grail of beef: the 240-day dry-aged riserva rib eye. 240 freaking days. That is nearly 200 days longer than your average dry aged steak you will find in Dallas.    Continue reading →

Dee Lincoln Steak & Burger Bar Opens In Plano Friday, April 25

Bison Burgerby Mark Shaeffer

Dee Lincoln Steak & Burger Bar’s Plano location will open to the public for dinner service this Friday, April 25th.  Located at 4701 West Park Boulevard, Lincoln has appointed Andrew Powers (Mansion on Turtle Creek, Trece, Waldorf Astoria in Utah, Magnolia Hotel Dallas)  as executive chef of this location. The menu is an approachable one with updated steakhouse fare and inventive burger recipes in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

Powers has been with Lincoln since she opened the first location in Uptown Dallas, September 2013.  Lincoln says, “chef Powers has that rustic sensibility while at the same time refined cooking that is a good fit for this concept.  He also understands the importance of providing only the best product possible and goes out of his way working with the farmers and purveyors on sourcing.”  Powers and executive chef Juliard Ishizuka, from the Uptown location, will work in tandem and support one another for both locations.    Continue reading →

We Unravel The Enigma That Is Becks Prime

DSC09858by Steven Doyle

The Dallas Burger Wars continue to mount at breakneck speed, leaving only the very best to survive. To make it in this North Texas city you need to bring your a-game, and I am looking directly in your peeps Houston. It’s been just over a single year since Becks Prime opened its quirky steakhouse with a drive through on Forest Lane near Preston in Dallas, and now the locations equal a solid three with more on the possible horizon. The latest incarnation is on Oak Lawn, just across the road from the very posh digs of the ultra elite fitness center, Equinox. After sampling most of the fare at Becks today, I can assuredly see the Parkie lovelies making way to the burger stop for some pretty fantastic non-fast fast food.    Continue reading →

Look For A Steak And Ale Opening Near You, But Not Real Soon

couponby Steven Doyle

The first time I ever slammed against a salad bar was at Steak and Ale as a young lad. The thought of the stack of the cold plates chilling to near iceberg levels only to be met with a layer of salad greens and the very first sampling of blue cheese ever still brings a slight moistening to the side of my lips.

I am not sure the last time I ran through that salad bar, or any salad bar for that matter, but it had to be at least five years ago because that was when the very last Steak and Ale closed its doors.

Hilton Anatole’s SĒR is Officially Open

We have followed the SĒR construction and menu development since the closing of iconic Nana just a few short months ago (here and here ). Many were saddened by the closure, but had those same people visited Nana more than once a year as a special ocassion restautrant, it would still be open. Thus the nature of economics.

SĒR is the first of a ration of restaurants premiering in the month of October, and this quick multi-million dollar facelift will soon prove to be one of the new gems sprouting from the restaurant role of 2012.

Where To Find A Good Steak In Dallas On The Cheap

by Steven Doyle

Probably not a week goes by that a reader asks where to find a good haunch of beef. We invariably tell them one of the many steakhouses across the Dallas skyline depending on where they live. We love Nick and Sam’s. It could be that they pass out caviar like it was candy, and sincerely… isn’t it? We also love Pappas Brothers in all their wine goodness.

Tonight several craveDFW staffers will be at Del Frisco Double Eagle for a wine dinner. We love somm Jennifer Jaco and never bypass a moment where we can visit with her even for a few minutes. Chamberlain’s Steak and Chop House also is a staff favorite, and we love his cigar room. Plus you get Richard Chamberlain, and that always makes for  fun evening.          Continue reading →
