Pick Ripe Peaches This Weekend at Ham Orchards

In eyesight of Terrell, Texas, Ham Orchards is more than just a peach farm—it’s a seasonal ritual, a family outing, and a local institution rolled into one. From mid-May through mid-August, the orchard invites visitors to wander rows of peach trees under the Texas sun, handpicking plump fruit that practically falls into your palm.

The process is simple. Upon arrival, guests check in at the front stand, receive baskets or boxes, and are directed to the day’s designated picking rows. Staff members are on hand to explain the best way to choose ripe peaches: look for the deep yellow-gold undertone, not just the rosy blush. Pick gently—twisting the fruit at the stem rather than pulling—and you’ll be rewarded with firm, fragrant peaches ready to eat fresh, bake into cobblers, or can for later.
