For those who have a gaping hole in their album collection from burning all of their Kings of Leon records after the bands disappointing Dallas show, look no further for the next up and coming phenomenon to hit this great nation. AWOLNATION packed Dallas’ own Prophet Bar on Thursday to fans ranging from the hipster teen to middle aged lawyers. LA’s finest hit the stage with hard hitting sounds from their debut album ‘Megalithic Symphony’. For a band that dropped their first album only 5 months ago, they had the entire crowd singing as though these songs had been playing on the radio for years.
Their high energy show included a light show provided by a backlit large AW light that pumped brighter with each hard hitting beat, front man Aaron Bruno (formerly of Hometown Hero & Under the Influence of Giants) leaping around the stage and making yelling in songs look cool.
The NATION played their most popular song ‘Sail’ which enticed the young-ins to crowd surf and leap on stage, I guess you can blame it on their A.D.D.; if you happen to not dig the dark beats of ‘Sail’ check out songs like ‘all I need’ or ‘jump on my shoulders’ to tickle your lighthearted fancy.
If you haven’t checked out the scene at Prophet Bar in Deep Ellum, be sure to find talent like the NATION playing their every week. I recommend grabbing cash and opting to drink beer over waiting in the enormous line at the bar for a mustached man to get around to serving a drink to the hoards of thirsty fans…and don’t even get me started on the bathroom situation. But if good music and an AC pumping venue are what your heart craves in this Texas heat then Prophet bar should be your next stop.
