Event Benefits Local Model Lauren Scruggs

by Alexis Claire

Tuesday night Sambuca 360 was packed with people attending the red carpet fundraiser, ‘An Event for Lauren’ benefitting the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund and hosted by Sambuca 360 and the Kimbell Agency. Lauren Scruggs, a Dallas-based fashion blogger at LOLO Magazine, suffered major injuries including the loss of her left hand and eye and brain damage after being hit by the propeller of a small plane when she went to go thank the pilot.

Lauren has made miraculous strides and continues on her long road to recovery, with a heart of gold and such a positive outlook, she is an inspiration to many.

While Lauren is at home re-learning her basic, day-to-day functions like opening and putting on her make-up, walking up stairs, making her bed and getting dressed, her friends and family gathered, the evening’s emcee, LeeAnne Locken said it best, “Tonight is about celebrating, it is about celebrating that Lauren Scruggs is going to come back ten times stronger than she was before this accident.”

Great music by Quinten Hope and Dave Himeman along with many local celebrities that care more about helping others than appearance fees attended, including Burton Gilliam from Blazing Saddles, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru Steve Kemble, former NBA player Ira Terrell, Jody Dean the KLUV Morning Host, Danielle Vollmar the Host of Eye Opener on CW33, Lisa Petty from DFW Style Daily, Rich Emberlin from Dallas SWAT TV Show and LeeAnne Locken who was also emceeing the fundraiser.

Thanks to everyone that attended, An Event for Lauren raised over $10,000 through a raffle and silent auction where businesses donated things like jewelry, clothing and spa and salon services. Richard Nunez painted live with Burton Gilliam and Mel Brooks from Blazing Saddles, Burton autographed the painting at the event and Mel Brooks will be autographing it, the painting raised a quarter of the event’s total amount.

One hundred percent of the money raised will be donated to the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund by LOLO Magazine, I can think of some Dallas charities that could learn a lot from this model. Lauren does have medical insurance but it doesn’t cover everything; family and friends believe that her portion is going to easily be six figures.

Donations to the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund can be made at any Frost Bank. Caitlin at Bling is the New Black also made a special Glamour Girl t-shirt to benefit the Lauren Scruggs Hope Fund, to order contact Lisa Kimbell at lrkimbell@gmail.com.
