Check Out Oral Fixation’s Final Show For The Season Tonight

by Steven Doyle

Last month I checked out this delightful program at the The MAC, located at 3120 McKinney Ave. and was thrilled.  Oral Fixation is about story telling and includes people from all backgrounds with diverse stories.  Tonight is the final night of the season and you need to check this out.

CraveDFW contributor and writer Steven Lindsey said it best: “It’s the perfect night of live theater: Nothing but a bare stage, a bar stool and regular people’s real stories — all taking up little more than an hour. Nicole carefully selects submissions and assembles the show to take the audience on an emotional journey. Some tales are heartwarming, some are hilarious, and others are absolutely remarkable.”

Being the last show of the season, they have enlisted some heavy-hitters like Sarah Hepola, personal essays editor of The tone of this show is high stakes with a wide range of stories from a drunk girl waking up in a dog bed to an Arkansas hippie home schooler’s penchant for running out of gas to a difficult lesson learned in college about the nature of life and death.

The MAC is the bright blue building and there is free parking in the lot. Further information and $10 tickets for purchase are available on the show’s website.

A couple insider tips: The show starts tonight 7:30pm at the Blackbox Theatre inside The MAC. I recommend arriving early for best parking, to have a drink and peruse the galleries. Overflow parking is available behind the building on Oak Grove, in the Cafe Express parking lot as well as behind City Vet across McKinney Ave. Afterwards, they will be heading across the street to The Quarter where they serve food till 10pm and offer $2 drink specials. It’s a special gathering because it’s the last of the season. Season 2 will commence in October and run monthly through May 2013.
