SPCA Pets of the Week: Chiquita and Smokey

Meet Chiquita, the cutest Chihuahua mix you’ll ever meet!  She is 11-years-young and 9-pounds, making her a perfect fit for any loving family. She is a gentle gal who loves daily walks and plenty of back and belly rubs.  She is quite playful and enjoys bouncing after tennis balls and dancing!  She would be a good family pet and already knows her way around a home.  In her previous home she lived with other dogs and cats, and was house trained.    

After living in the shelter, it might take her a couple of weeks to remember all of her house training in her new adoptive home. To sweeten this adoption, she is considered a VIP doggie because of her maturity.  That means Chiquita has a lower adoption price.  Don’t worry – age is just a number and Chiquita has plenty of love and laughter to give.  Chiquita was surrendered to the SPCA of Texas on June 21 because her previous owners no longer had adequate housing for her.  She is hoping to find the perfect home.  Could her perfect home be with you? Meet Smokey, a beautiful 1-year-old, 7 pound Domestic Shorthair mix looking for her forever home and an owner to love and adore.  She has a silky, blue coat and a gorgeous face made complete with her striking gold eyes. She’s a little thing, but what she lacks in size she makes up for in heart, she’s got a lot of love to give. She loves having her soft fur stroked, getting and giving plenty of nuzzles and of course cuddling. She is also very playful; the stick with the feathers on the end is her favorite. She might be a little shy at first, but she doesn’t need much convincing to start snuggling with you. Though she loves people, she would prefer a home with no dogs or cats.

Smokey was surrendered to the SPCA of Texas on May 26 because her previous owner was allergic to her. She’s also a V.I.P. (Very Important Pet) because she’s been waiting for her new, loving family for more than 30 days, and she has a special lower adoption price. So what are you waiting for? Chiquita and Smokey are waiting for you at the SPCA of Texas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas at 2400 Lone Star Drive near I-30 and Hampton Rd. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Regular adoption fees are $95-125 for puppies 0-6 months, $75-95 for adult dogs 6 months or older, $50 for senior dogs 7 years or older, $50 for VIP dogs, $95 for kittens, $75 for adult cats, $50 for senior cats 7 years and older and $50 for VIP cats. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older, initial heartworm preventative for dogs, a feline leukemia test for cats four months and older, a microchip, a rabies tag and a free leash or cat carrier.
