There is a super cool Ice Cream Social on FRIDAY, June 20st, from 7 to 10pm at Garden Café (5310 Junius Street). This event is a fundraiser to support Slow Food Dallas’ new education partnership with Skyline High School’s culinary department. Funds raised will be used to support and expand the program in the 2014-2015 school year.

Tickets are on sale now and include:

  • Gelato sundaes made with locally sourced milk
  • Lakewood Temptress beer floats
  • Popsicles with Caledonia gin, honey, and herbs
  • Local beer on tap

Tickets are bargained priced at $15, but space is limited. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available.

Slow Food Dallas’ education program focuses on showing high school culinary students the many ways food gets to the kitchen, with particular emphasis on how local farmers, ranchers, and food artisans provide food to restaurants and customers around the Dallas area. Our goal is to help students understand how the intensive work of these local food producers creates a product that is more sustainable and of high quality than commodity foods. This year students heard from Texas Honeybee Guild, Barking Cat Farm, and cheese monger Ali Morgan. Funds raised at the Ice Cream Social will go towards adding additional speakers and expanding the partnership into a year-long program that will include in a field trip out to a local farm.

Slow Food Dallas is part of the global Slow Food network of over 150,000 members in more than 150 countries. Through a vast volunteer network of local chapters, we link the pleasures of the table with a commitment to protect the community, culture, and environment that make good, clean, and fair food possible. You can learn more by visiting Slow Food Dallas.
