El Pollito Loco is a one-up restaurant which is located across the street from Cinemark 13 Theater near the corner of Forest Lane and Webb Chapel. At first glance the restaurant has the appearance of the national chain El Pollo Loco which sells charred pollo asada family-style and has several locations in the Dallas area. There is a slight difference however.
Pollito is owned by Daniel Diaz and Violeta Ramez who are both first time restaurant owners. This is their only location. The menu is similar to Pollo Loco, but they have more menu items including tacos, burritos and gorditas.
The chicken is char grilled and has a spicy marinade that keeps it moist and tender. We tried the half chicken which is cooked spatchcock-style and fills the room which its smoky scent. Sides include a stack of flour or corn tortillas, a pint of borracho beans and rice.
The beans are filled with bits of bacon and, interestingly enough, slices of wieners. The beans have a fantastic flavor, but the hot dogs are a bit odd. Violeta assures us that the hot dogs are a typical addition, though we haven’t seen this anywhere in the past.
The half chicken makes a full meal for two hungry adults when paired with the sides. The family owned restaurant is priced right and well worth a visit if in the area.
