It was just a few years ago that hot dogs were quite the fashion plate, but competition was fierce and as fast as many arrived on the scene, all delicious and crave worthy, they vanished seemingly overnight. A fairly new doggery to the Dallas landscape that has been a proven concept for eight years which first opened in Pasadena made its entry this past year and has been building a strong following in Richardson. Meet Dog Haus.
Dog Haus is a craft casual hot dog concept known for its best in breed gourmet hot dogs, sausages, burgers and a one of a kind fried chicken sandwich. Guests can chase these gourmet creations with brews from a tap list emphasizing local favorites and finish it all off on a sweet note with premium shakes or soft-serve ice cream. All dogs, sausages, burgers and the fried chicken sandwich are served on grilled King’s Hawaiian rolls. Open daily, guests can choose from signature Haus creations or customize their own from a wide array of unique toppings.
Sausage favorites include The Fonz, which is a melange of a spicy Italian sausage, pastrami and cheddar cheese sauce; and Das Brat, which features a bratwurst with caramelized onions, sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard. Haus Burgers run the gamut featuring 100% genetically tested, humanely raised Black Angus beef using no hormones and no antibiotics – never ever in one-of-a-kind creations like The Freiburger, with white American cheese, fried egg, hausslaw, fries and mayo and Holy Aioli, with white American cheese, caramelized onions, smoked bacon and garlic aioli.
Dog favorites are definitely the Sooo Cali, with wild arugula, tomato, crispy onions, spicy basil aioli and avocado; Downtown Dog, featuring a smoked bacon wrapped dog topped with caramelized onions, pickled peppers, mayo, mustard and ketchup; and Cowboy, with cheddar cheese sauce, smoked bacon, bbq sauce and crispy onions.
Without a doubt our favorite dog is the Scott Baioli which is a smoked bacon wrapped dog, cheddar cheese sauce, caramelized onions, garlic aioli served on a series of Hawaiian rolls.
For those wishing a bit extra look to the house-made corn dog hand dipped in the Dog Haus root beer batter. You may choose a hot dog or sausage for yoursticked up meat.
There are plenty of burger choices and the class favorite is definitely the Hangover made with white american cheese, smoked bacon, haus chili, fried egg and mayo.
You may pick and choose your ingredients and build your own dog or burger, or even a burger-dog if that is your wish. We might suggest a Crave Dog that is comprised of a double pattied burger with slices of spicy Italian sausage with both chili and a fried egg. Go ahead, order that. Tell them it is The Crave Dog. Order this with the standard chili cheese tots, or the house-made onion rings, which are simply amazing.
Wash all of these dogs and burgers down with one of the many local beers, or ask for a premium shake boozed up a bit. Although not officially on the menu, yet you may order a shake with your favorite brand of whiskey, or liquor of choice. A White Russian shake would be delicious with both vodka and a Kahlua. The choices here are endless.
The Dog Haus is located in Richardson and is already experiencing grown with an addition of an outdoor stage for entertainment. There is also a large fountain and play areas for both adults and the wee ones.
The Dog Haus is simply delicious with a with range of choices, all greta choices. We will be seeing several more locations in the future around DFW, but for now the trek to Richardson is very well worth however long it might take you.
