2012 Tokaji Furmint, Pajzos Antaloczy Cellars,Hungary ($11)
Not the famous sweet wine of Hungary but a dry wine made from the same grape (Furmint). I had to buy it because of my experience with dry Furmint blends in Portugal last October. Dry Furmint is earthy and slightly oxidized. This one has good body and high acid making it an excellent match with a lot of food, I had it with pasta and Alfredo sauce. It stood up. Recommended. Sigel’s. Purchased at retail.
2013 Bodegas Terra Gauda Albarino, Abadia De San Campio, Rias Baixas, Spain. ($20)
The Albarino grape is a darling of sommeliers and chefs because it has a distinctive flavor profile and great dynamic range paired with food. One taste of a good one, this one for example, and it is no mystery why. The citrus fruit in the nose, slight oiliness and salinity on the palate. As is normal with this wine, no oak. Bracing acid and mineral backbone make for a great experience. ($20). Recommended.
2013 Bodegas Terra Gauda O Rosal, Rias Baixas, Spain. ($24)
By the same winery as the previous wine. Only 70% Albarino so it cannot legally be labelled such. The remainder is 15% Loureira (better known as Arinto) and 15% Caino Blanco. Very similar in style to its stablemate this wine is more acidic so will accompany heavy cream sauces to great effect.
2010 Brushy Creek Vineyards Roussanne, Oswald Vineyard, Texas.($25)
One of the successful Texas Roussane wines in CraveDFW’s recent face-off with California and France. This is in the ripe, warm weather style. Tropical fruit in the nose and considerable body in the mouth. Quaff or pair with poultry dishes. Can be purchased from the winery web site. Or you can drive out to the winery, just over an hour from Dallas. Recommended.
