Whiskey Cake and Ida Claire Toast to Derby Day with Juleps, Raffles, and Southern-Inspired Sips

Whiskey Cake

Derby Day is on the horizon, and two well-loved local spots—Whiskey Cake and Ida Claire—are gearing up to celebrate with signature cocktails, themed raffles, and all-day festivities on Saturday, May 3. Though different in style, the restaurants share ownership and a clear passion for crafting memorable, Southern-inspired experiences.

Ida Claire

At Ida Claire, the celebration leans into classic charm with a cozy, garden-party feel and a lineup of carefully crafted cocktails. Guests can sip on the Mint Julep, made with Still Austin Bourbon, mint, and Angostura bitters; try something with a twist like the Tobacco Peach Julep, featuring Rittenhouse Rye and peach liqueur; or go lighter with the Derby Dash, a refreshing mix of Jameson, elderflower, lime, and cucumber. A “Best Hat” raffle adds a fun and fashionable element to the day’s events, with the main race set to air at 5:57 p.m.

Just down the road, Whiskey Cake is putting its own bold spin on the Derby with a more bourbon-forward celebration. Guests can choose from three takes on the julep, including the Julep Season—a fruit-forward blend of Old Forester Bourbon, blackberry, peach liqueur, and mint. The Southern Gentleman combines Jack Daniel’s with Amaro Nonino and mint-turbinado for a richer profile, while Talk Derby to Me brings a mix of Old Forester Rye, apple bitters, and strawberry to the glass. Those looking to sample more can try the Churchill Flight, a four-spirit tasting featuring top names like Old Forester and Woodford Reserve. Attendees are also entered to win a premium Woodford Reserve Whiskey Kit.

From bold flavors to thoughtful presentation, both restaurants are offering more than just drinks—they’re creating an easygoing, festive way to enjoy Derby Day.
