The building at 9812 Camp Bowie West Blvd. has already played a restaurant on television. It was the Patch Cafe on Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman,” the Paramount+ series with Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore, filmed on location in the Westland Shopping Center before the crew packed up and left the storefront empty again. Now it’s becoming an actual restaurant, and the family behind it already runs one of the most recognized names in Fort Worth hospitality.
Rosebuds Picnic Supply is opening this summer next door to that former set, from the Murrin family, who also own River Ranch Stockyards. It’s a sandwich and ice cream shop built around what the name promises: fried chicken, fresh sandwiches, seasonal soups and salads, and traditional Texas sweets meant to be eaten slowly rather than grabbed and gone. A full-service restaurant tied to the Landman set is planned for the space next door once Rosebuds gets its doors open first.
The name has more history behind it than a typical picnic-themed sandwich shop. Back in 1940, the Jenny Lind Club on this same stretch of Camp Bowie hired a theater dance troupe called the Six Tiny Rosebuds to work as carhops, a detail the Murrins pulled straight out of Westland’s own past rather than inventing something that sounded vintage. It’s the kind of name that means something to anyone who grew up around this corner of Fort Worth and just sounds pretty to everyone else.
Westland has quietly turned into one of the more interesting pockets of the city to watch. JD’s Hamburgers opened two doors down a couple of years ago and became one of the busiest burger spots in Fort Worth almost immediately. Margie’s Italian Gardens, the old-school Fort Worth institution, is coming back a few storefronts over, alongside a new interior-Mexico concept and a bar called Fuel Stop 80. Rosebuds is positioned to be the anchor that ties the whole strip together, the kind of place people stop into on their way somewhere else and end up staying for.
As of this week, Rosebuds is still telling followers on Instagram it’s on track for a summer opening, with hiring already underway for the kitchen and service team. No firm date yet, but the address is locked in and the food, per their own updates, is ready before the space is.
