Pete’s Cafe sits in a strip center at 3610 Belt Line Road, right about where Farmers Branch runs into Addison and Carrollton. It opens at 6 a.m. seven days a week, closes at 2 p.m., and a good share of the room orders before the menu hits the table. Coffee shows up fast and keeps flowing. Plates land heavy.
The cafe sums itself up as homemade food, served hot. The kitchen backs that up. Chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, catfish and cinnamon rolls are made from scratch every day.
Order the Chicken Fried Steak first. The breading is thick and craggy, fried to a deep brown that crackles when the knife goes in, and the steak underneath stays tender enough to cut with the side of a fork. Cream gravy goes on generously and pools around the edges, flecked with black pepper. It’s on the breakfast and lunch menus, and it’s also the Wednesday special. The Chicken Fried Chicken gets the same crust for anyone skipping beef.

Pete’s Special is the order for the hungry: two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns or grits, plus pancakes or French toast. Add a side of Biscuits & Gravy. The Chicken & Waffles arrive topped with bacon, and the Pecan Waffle covers the sweet side.
Don’t skip the Tex-Mex. The Migas might be the sleeper on the whole menu. Eggs are scrambled soft with cheese, tomatoes and onions, and the tortilla strips folded in keep just enough crunch to matter. You pick the jalapeños, pickled for tang or fresh for heat. Pinto beans, hash browns and warm corn tortillas ride alongside, and the picante sauce is there for spooning over all of it. Roll a forkful into a tortilla and you have the best breakfast taco on Belt Line. The Huevos Rancheros are another good call, with red or green salsa. Pete’s also bottles its own hot sauce if you want some for home.
The menu wanders a little. There’s a Greek Omelet and a Gyro a few lines from the Patty Melt on Rye.

Lunch leans meat-and-three. Meat Loaf, Chopped Sirloin and Catfish Fingers are always on the board, and the Open Hot Turkey Sandwich is turkey on fresh bread under cream gravy. Plan around the daily specials: Pot Roast on Tuesday, Chicken and Dumplings on Wednesday, Liver and Onions on Thursday, and Turkey and Dressing or Cajun Catfish on Friday.
Dessert means homemade pie, Peach Cobbler, Banana Pudding or Strawberry Cake. With Thanksgiving around the corner, Pete’s sells them whole too, including a Whole Pecan Pie and a Whole Peach Cobbler. Nobody at your table needs to know who baked it.
