Shinsei’s Five Year Anniversary

by Steven Doyle

Happy anniversary, Shinsei and congratulations to both Tracy Rathbun and Lynae Fearing for five years of success with their restaurant Shinsei located at Inwood and Lovers Lane.

To celebrate their first five the two-some threw a party befitting the occasion and benefiting 5 separate charities that are near to the ladies.

What has become a staple for Asian cuisine and sushi conceived by the pair of restaurateurs almost started out as a taqueria or even possibly a yoga studio.  Continue reading

CityArts Festival Hosts Food Trucks and Chefs

by Steven Doyle

This weekend we stumbled upon the CityArt’s Festival at Fair Park. It was Saturday afternoon and my little band of gypsies had just dined on Jimmy’s Food Store sandwiches and spent some time with Tom Spicer sipping Prosecco on his fairly new patio deck behind Spiceman’s FM 1410 shop. We were so close to Fair Park it would have been a miscarriage of justice not to stop in and see what was cooking at the festival. Continue reading

Voveti Prosecco Sparkles

by David Donalson

Yesterday, I had the privilege of going to the industry release event of Freixenet’s new product, the Voveti Prosecco. This is done through a partnership between Freixenet, one of the main Cava producers in Spain, and Collavini family based in Friuli, Italy.

When talking with brand manager Liz Hartley, she explained how the Ferrer family wanted to expand and create an “authentic Italian Prosecco by going to the source.” “This has been over a year in the making” and the initial release was only 7000 cases, a miniscule production for a giant producer like Freixenet. The concept was to create a higher-end product to highlight the quality of the fruit. With a $17 price point, this will quickly replace most sparkling wines for my Sunday brunch.  Continue reading
