Driving through Uptown last evening we finally spotted progress at 2533 McKinney Avenue, or the former home to Sfuzzi. The new restaurant and bar will be called Fat Rabbit. This name was no doubt generated by the same machine that thought up Velvet Taco. Stay tuned for more information.

The Ivy Tavern soft opened a week ago, with the grand opening this past Saturday. Owned and operated by Lisa and Tom Georgalis, former owners of Inwood Tavern, can usually be found waling the tavern and the bodacious patio area which is decorated with a firepit, picnic tables and a variety of entertaining games such as man-sized Jingo blocks and darts. Visiting the tavern several times last week we were able to soak up what has already become an institution with what appears to be a large set of regulars. Continue reading

It is almost that time of year when we all think of bikini’s, beach and sun. The weather is starting to be a more consistent breeze with a splash fun, and many are turning to lighter fare. Most restaurants now have at least a vegetarian option, and almost all can do a vegan plate of some sort. The truly interesting restaurants can make either of these options a delight even for the most committed omnivore. Bolsa succeeds at the latter.
Look no further than the Baby Artichoke & Goat Cheese Gnocchi which is served with heirloom tomatoes, spinach and a tomato-mint sauce. This dish is amazingly light and refreshing – and addictive. Pair this with one of their wonderful signature cocktails, and you will have a meal that transcends nature itself. Continue reading

The month old Henderson Tap House is serving up a huge menu in a very tiny space of a kitchen.The kitchen is outfitted with a wood burning oven, so the pizzas they offer come out bubbly hot and crisp. There is a large variety of soups, sandwiches and salads, as well as a pretty spectacular prime rib and potato nacho dish that has shaved prime rib, housemade potato chips, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and bleu cheese crumbles. For the past month we have been fielding rumors that Club Schmitz would be closing this summer. In a panic we sent ace photographer Robert Bostick out for a photo shoot a few weeks ago. We both have been getting mixed stories, so we chose not to run with anything at that time. It seems it was just a few short years ago that Tom and Lisa Georgalis bought the Inwood Tavern. It was a legendary 46 years old at the time. The tiny neighborhood tavern is located near the corner of Inwood and Lovers in Dallas, directly next to Shinsei. Today Lisa Georgalis sent me word that the couple sold the bar, now 50 years old, to Len Critcher.
Critcher has been described as a serial entrepreneur, with his first success in the start up eCarList in 2006 which he eventually sold for $48mm. Critcher is a recognized authority in online inventory management and is currently serving as CEO at OrderMyGear. Continue reading

I have been eagerly awaiting the full-on opening of Blind Butcher on Lowest Greenville for some time now. The smallish bar located in the newly revitalized section of Greenville that brings us such illustrious offerings as the Truck Yard, Trader Joes, Nora, Dude Sweet Chocolate and HG Sply, Blind Butcher will be offering something unique for the area. Actually, unique for Dallas and is highly anticipated. From the fellows that brought us the over-the-top brew and burger bar, Goodfriend, Matt Tobin and Josh Yingling have joined forces with Oliver Sitrin, Ryan Chaney and Tony Bricker to bring us an interesting bar serving some tasty brews and cocktails, with the addition of a fine dining element without all the trappings of white table cloth wrapped tables and persnickety sommeliers.
