The Fairmont Has a Coming Out Party

New Pyramid Bar 2by Andrew Chalk

After what seems like an interminable silence, the Fairmont Dallas invited the media to come and see all the new things that they have. On the inorganic side, a $10m renovation has seen the rooms upgraded and the Pyramid Bar given a makeover. On the organic side, Leigh Mills has arrived from Sous Chef at Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, Missouri (a property which has been recognized with accolades from numerous publications including Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler).as Chef de Cuisine and Eric Burrell, from the Ritz-Carlton organization, as pastry chef. Both have a good chance to make a big impression on the city with The Fairmont – Dallas as their platform. After all, that is what André Natera did.    Continue reading

Your Exclusive Hard Hat Tour To The New Gas Monkey Bar And Grill

gas monksby Steven Doyle

It’s Fast. It’s loud. It is the Gas Monkey Garage boys ripping it up each week on the Discovery Channel with their hit reality program Fast n’ Loud.  The Dallas based show is centered around two mechanics, Richard Rawlings who is a self-pronounced motor mastermind, and Aaron Kaufmann, a mechanical prodigy. Now call them by their new title, restaurateurs.

We were invited in for an exclusive hard hat tour this week and it looks like this will be an extremely fun venue. Gas Monkey Bar and Grill is deep up in the construction phase with new ideas being brought to the table each day to make it more Monkey-esque. Look for plenty of garage doors opening up into secret cabanas in perfect eye sight to a massive outdoor stage that also overlooks a beautiful pond. Or the beautiful patio around the corner, in the front of the venue, that has the same water view but will be shaded with faux garage fixtures.    Continue reading

HG Sply Co Open For Lunch Daily

hg2by Steven Doyle

I recently did a First Look at HG Sply Company, and since then have been back many, many times. I have found myself in the unique Greenville Ave. restaurant not only for the food, but also the cocktails or beer. The restaurant itself is billed as a paleo restaurant, which is basically things hunted and gathered. But had you not known about that portion of the concept you might not give the menu a second thought, other than the fact it is sincerely well crafted food.    Continue reading

Acme F&B To Become Beer Garden

acme2by Steven Doyle

Acme F&B released their wunderkind chef Norman Grimm as they begin to re-concept the brand into a more casual beer-centric bar with food.  I confirmed the news with Brooke Humphries this morning and she said that she wanted to get back to her roots and do what they do best.

The space will indeed be a beer garden. “We have 36 taps, a great patio,” Humphries wrote to us, “we will have good food with a lower price point. I’m not a sea bass person, I am more a Waygu burger bacon jam and redneck cheddar or flatbread kinda bar person, ya know?”  Continue reading

Kosmas Demos His Employees Only Mixes At Sigels This Weekend

JACK ROSEby Steven Doyle

In Dallas we think of Jason Kosmas as super laid back barman with the killer mustache. In reality he is laid back and unassuming, but he is also building his brand of liquor, writing cocktail books, and co-owner of what has been labeled as the best bar in the world, Employees Only. He even has a television program he pitched a network in Los Angeles last week where he plays host in a quasi-version of Chopped. Today Kosmas called to let me know that he will be at Sigel’s Fine Wines & Great Spirits on Greenville Avenue tomorrow selling the Employees Only own line of mixers.   Continue reading

JW Tate Leaving Dallas

jwby Steven Doyle

When Tate’s Craft Cocktails owner John Tate opened his second bar on McKinney Avenue we were thrilled. The smallish cocktail den served small bites and glorious cocktails. The opening manager was Matt Ceneviva who had previously managed the first location in Winston-Salem. After working the bar and getting the program up to speed Ceneviva moved back home to Winston-Salem. Enter JW Tate, a young but bad ass barman who had been honing his skills in New York.    Continue reading

The Establishment’s Adjoining Reservation Bar Opens This Week

DSC06082by Steven Doyle

Look for the new reservation bar that is attached to the space that will soon become the Establishment to open this week. Brian Williams and Michael Martensen both hosted a sneak preview for friends and family this past Friday evening, and we were able to get a glimpse of the bar.

Currently the bar has no name and Martensen said they are still tweaking the logo. Rumor has it that the space might be named Bar Smyth, but that could change.     Continue reading

Elbow Room Opened This Weekend For A Little Teaser Party

elbow roomby Steven Doyle

There have been rumblings at the old Elbow Room as they make final preparations to re-open their doors. I can almost smell that incredible pizza and the slurpy good drinks as I envision my butt sitting on the covered portion of the back patio. You might recall we reported the closure back in early December.   Continue reading
