Recap of the Chefs for Farmers Sous Chef Competition (Video)

Last Sunday we enjoyed another chapter in the Chefs for Farmers series. The Sous Chef Competition is the latest to come from the team assembled by Iris and Matt McCallister who started the organization that pays homage to local farmers and ranchers, and their supporters. Each CFF event is different than the next, which I am sure gives the organizers a bit of brain strain, but their efforts pay out brilliantly.   Continue reading

Boulevardier’s GMO Tristan Wins CFF Sous Chef Competition, Offers Winning Dish Tonight

The sous chef at Boulevardier won the great Chefs for Farmers competition last weekend and now the restaurant wants to celebrate. Tonight, and through Saturday, GMO Tristan will be serving the winning dish as a small plate.

The dish is a Moroccan glazed lamb loin on a bed of roasted carrot hummus, with a North African salad of fried garbanzo beans, cumin almonds, preserved lemons, drunken raisins, and peas drizzled with lemon confit. Continue reading

Save The Date: Chefs For Farmers Sous Chef Throwdown

Chefs for Farmers has evolved over the past few years since it was first concepted by Matt and Iris McCallister.  You may recall the first installment that was cheffed by a handful of local talent that ran in the same pack, and who took the first road show to a local farmer’s field. The day was sun kissed and breezy, and there was plenty of laughter as each chef took on a course to feed a very long table of happy diners.

The second event was months later and took place in a winery in Fort Worth. The crowd swelled to benefit local farmers and Meals on Wheel of Tarrant County, one of the McCallister’s passions. This event had more chefs and many from the Fort Worth side of the tracks, making it far more inclusive and a delightful event.         Continue reading

Chefs For Farmers 2012: Success

As the day began the warm sun was breaking through the clouds greeting each visitor to Lee Park for the 2012 Chefs for Farmers “Mixin It Up On The BLVD” event held this past Sunday. I stood with Iris McCallister as bartender phenom Eddie “Lucky” Campbell took the stage to toast the growing crowd at 11:30am. The official toast would be much later in the day, but this one was to thank the many, many farmers, chefs and volunteers that made the event possible. Iris grinned and you could see she was visibly excited and pointed up to the sky where a wispy vertical rainbow had appeared.  This was going to be a fantastic day.    Continue reading
