January Closures

January 2020  has been a sad month with closures the Dallas restaurant community.

We were rocked by the news of LUCK in Trinity Groves bowing out, with a final blow out last Sunday. We were especially unsettled by this bit of news as over the years we had plenty invested mentally in LUCK and the owners, Chef Daniel Pittman, Jeff Dietzman, and Ned Steel who were all first time restaurant owners. The boys called on us months before opening their  beer-centric restaurant in up-and-coming Trinity Groves having us attend pop-ups around the city as they prepared guests for something truly amazing. Where To Find Fantastic Chicken and Waffles in Dallas

The Chicken and Waffle phenomenon dates back to 1930’s Harlem to Wells Supper Club billed as “Home of Chicken and Waffles Since 1938.” They claim to be the first to sell the dish during the Jazz Age, when late-night diners would order breakfast or dinner to soak up the evening’s alcohol, and get them safely on their way home.   Continue reading

Elusive Tableside Service and Where to Find it in Dallas

There is simply nothing more elegant and festive as tableside service. We are talking the classic Caesar Salad tossed in full view of the guest, at their table and with great finesse. It is the definitive dinner and a show that has somewhat fallen from a great many menus across the country. Beyond adding a bit of flair, this and many other tableside presentations also demonstrates a commitment to freshness. What could be more fresh and flavorful than a dessert or salad  finished off right before the diners’ eyes? Celebrate Common Table’s Third Anniversary All This Week

Common Table is celebrating their third anniversary all week in grand style. Each day there will be celebratory tapping’s of incredible beer starting today where the staff will be raiding an inventory set back for just such occasions.

Look for some local beers that will be a blast from the past such as a 2012 Wealth and Taste, long with Numb Comfort. Also find a Lakewood bourbon barrel Temptress and Community Trinity Tripel.

Some other fun brews tapped today include Avery Hand of Buddha, a 2011 Ommegang Three Philosophers, 2010 Sierra Nevada Big Foot, and Great Divide Espresso Yeti and Chocolate Yeti (cask).      Continue reading
