January 2020 has been a sad month with closures the Dallas restaurant community.
We were rocked by the news of LUCK in Trinity Groves bowing out, with a final blow out last Sunday. We were especially unsettled by this bit of news as over the years we had plenty invested mentally in LUCK and the owners, Chef Daniel Pittman, Jeff Dietzman, and Ned Steel who were all first time restaurant owners. The boys called on us months before opening their beer-centric restaurant in up-and-coming Trinity Groves having us attend pop-ups around the city as they prepared guests for something truly amazing. One of our favorite restaurants in Dallas sits proudly as one of the early adopters to the Lowest Greenville Avenue reboot, just across from Trader Joes. We have written about Nora numerous times, and love to pop in occasionally and check out the fantastic cocktails designed by Jason Kosmas, and the food made nightly by chef-owner Matt Pikar. The Afghan food is light, and ethereal, and extremely satisfying. Check out this visit, or this one. Continue reading

After all the great Vodka I sampled Saturday Night I was surprised I could write this article. A packed house in the ever spacious Cool River in Las Colinas sampled so many great vodka brands. Chef Rodman Sheilds provided passed appetizers to offset the onslaught of the free pouring vodka. Stuffed mushrooms, ahi bruschetta with pineapple, crab cakes and the best stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon I have had in a long time, complemented the interesting cocktails that were being served .
There were lots of familiar brands being poured like absolute, ultimate , Tito’s , Grey Goose , Svdeka ( being manned by my good buddy Todd from Constellation) and there were a few new brands to try as well. Continue reading
