Tanoshii Ramen + Bar Opens September 24

Dallas’ first ramen restaurant – Tanoshii Ramen + Bar – will open this coming Tuesday, September 24th.  Located in historic Deep Ellum of Dallas, husband and wife duo – Joey and Chi Le – have created a vibrant free-spirited dining room and bar with a carefully developed menu dedicated to the beautiful Japanese noodle dish.  The Le’s bring their experiences and the way they enjoy street food to Tanoshii with making fresh ramen noodles in-house and gyoza, embracing vegan dishes that are embedded in the Asian culture, and serving late night ramen hot pot.

Tanoshii’s recipes were meticulously developed by co-owner, Chi Le.  “Ramen is truly an art.  The ramen chef and the one eating the bowl of ramen are the artists as every bowl is made differently and every bowl is eaten in each person’s own special way,” explains Le.  “It is said that no two bowls of ramen are alike, which is all the more reason to eat as many as possible.  Ramen is simple yet incredibly diverse. One thing that unites all backgrounds is the love of good food.  To enjoy ramen is to appreciate the Japanese culture and the history of this wonderful bowl of noodles, broth and toppings.”   Continue reading

Preston Center Wicked Po Boy Rumored To Become Pho Restaurant

phoby Steven Doyle

Late August we shared the fact that Wicked Po Boy closed in Preston Center. Chi and Joey Le, owners of the groovy NOLA inspired restaurant, which was located at 6030 Luther Lane, were suffering through the fact that there wasn’t a big enough dinner crowd to sustain the shop even though lunches proved to be highly successful. Now we catch rumors that a retooling is underway to bring pho to the center.   Continue reading

More Midnight Ramen At Ten Bells Tavern This Saturday

Justin Holt’s last night at Lucia is this Saturday. After that you can find the up-and-coming chef cooking alongside his new boss and execu-chef, Omar Flores at Driftwood. You may recall the Holt name from his delightful pop-up ramen nights at a few Oak Cliff bars. The young chef would spend a week conjuring up killer ramen, which happens to be one of the hot new trends in dining, serving it up in cute Styrofoam cups for a mere five bucks.

Soon after Holt announced he was making his move to the seafood-centric restaurant Driftwood, he made comments about giving up on his ramenriffic dreams. Well, this is simply not true. When we caught wind of the new ramen night, which will be held at Ten Bells Tavern in the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff, we checked in on Holt. “I’ve got a game plan that should keep me on the road to ramageddon I’m going to stick with it,” said the chef.    Continue reading

Midnight Ramen Redux At Ten Bells This Saturday

Ramen is the hot new topic on the lips of local food types. It is the perfect food with house-made noodles, a rich steamy broth, meaty pork belly and hopefully a wonderful poached egg. Just a few weeks back local chef from Lucia, Justin Holt, hosted two nights of ramen at  a few Oak Cliff night spots. I just received a text from the chef saying he is pumped about another night of ramen at Ten Bells Tavern this Saturday night, March 9, 2013.   Continue reading
