Weekend Plans: Beer Anyone?

by Steven Doyle

The Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival continues today and the weather is perfect for a stroll down the heart of the city to sip a beer and look at some nice arts and crafts. This event is huge and there are plenty of bands to watch for free.

DADA (Dallas Art Dealers Association) Spring Art Walk in South Dallas at 923 Salmon Drive today from 2PM until 8PM.

The Dallas International Guitar Festival is going on this weekend at Market Hall. Check out some amazing guitarists playing continuously on 3 live music stages including George Lynch, Cody Canada & The Departed, Bugs Henderson, Rick Derringer and many more. Buy, Sell, Trade at over 600 exhibitor booths.

In the second bout of Assassination City Roller Derby’s 2011 season, the Lone Star Assassins will take on Viva La Revolucion, and the Deadly Kennedys will skate against the Bombshell Brigade. You know you want to check this one out tonight at Fair Park.

Coming off a busy beer week, The Moth has a few really great beers left in inventory according to our groovy beer friend Airon Peralta  who did a bit of reconnaissance last evening.

For starters Airon is recommending the special of five 5-ounce tasters of anything on their tap wall for a mere $17, a true beer bargain considering the heavy hitters you will score. The Moth’s blue ribbon beer is currently the Jester King’s Drink’in the Sun Belt available as a special for $3. Drink’in is very hoppy, flavorful session ale brewed with equal portions of malted barley and malted wheat, and heavily dry-hopped with citrusy, American Amarillo hops and is a collaboration of Jester and the very well known Danish gypsy brewer, Mikkeller.

Airon says that we should enjoy the Jester beer on this beautiful day,. So you might want to grab a patio seat and relax.

Other beer news, The Common Table is tap happy today cracking the seals on eleven Stone Brewing Company taps today starting at 11AM, a few making their Texas debut according to Corey Pond. The beer to look out for would be the Double Bastard which Stone calls a “lacerative muther of an ale.” I will personally be stopping in for a few tastes later today before the Mavericks game.

Sunday check out the Urban Chuck Wagon Pig Pickin’ at Rahr Brewery. Bonus event points for being in a brewery, and additional kudos for benefiting Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County. This event is 4-7PM and is $40 at the door.

Also Sunday the Taste of the NFL will be throwing down the ultimate tailgate party at the Glass Cactus located in the Gaylord in Grapevine. This event benefit’s the North Texas Food Bank and will feature some of our favorite team players past and present, plus a great line up of chefs hosting the event, including Kent Rathbun. This starts at 6:30 and tickets will be available at the door.

Be sure to read craveDFW where we will be featuring great ideas for Easter through out the week.
