Bastille on Bishop is this Thursday, July 14 from 6pm-10pm in the heart of the Bishop Arts District, and the lineup of chefs for the second annual Mussel Competition has been finalized.
It’s a great list of chefs, but sadly, defending champ David Uygur from Lucia is unable to defend his title because his uber popular restaurant has opened since he last competed and he can’t get out of the kitchen. But we do have several returning challengers as well as several new faces competing for the 2011 title.

Each chef will cook 3 rounds of mussels and will be judged on both taste and presentation. In addition, 500 mussel tasting tickets will be sold to that the general public at $5 per ticket. After the chefs plate mussels for the judges they will dish out the remaining mussels per round and each serving will be worth 1 ticket.
We anticipate selling out of mussel tickets very early, and so you can either buy your tickets tonight between 6pm and 8pm at Eno’s (407 N. Bishop) or before 6pm at the ticket booth at the corner of Bishop and 7th on the day of the event. If you wait till 7pm on Thursday to try to buy a mussel ticket you will be watching from the sidelines! The first batch of mussels will be ready at 7:15pm, the second at 8pm and the final batch of mussels should be served by 8:30pm.
And if mussels aren’t your cup of tea, we’ll have plenty of other French food options for you to enjoy, including crepe stands, frites (French fries, of course), and a classic French street sandwich of sausage and caramelized onions on a French baguette. And what sort of French themed event would this be with out wine? Thanks to the good folks at Calais, we hope to have plenty of wine for our thirst Francophiles.
All in all it’s going to be an amazing night in Bishop Arts – don’t miss it!
