Barn Aid 2011

by Crave Staff
Barn Aid is an annual fundraising event that features live entertainment, food and great times in order to raise funds for local food & farming groups. Its namesake comes from the more than 50-year-old barn that sits at Eden’s Garden in Balch Springs.

Barn Aid is the brain child of two Dallas-area women who wanted to plan an event to help the community with a theme on local, healthy food and farming.  Set on Eden’s Garden in Balch Springs, Barn Aid was originally created in 2008 after a tornado struck CSA farm owner Marie Tedei’s home and her more than 50-year-old barn, as well as friends and neighbors homes and property nearby. To help raise money for damages, she and local photographer and writer Jenice Johnson created Barn Aid.

After receiving an unexpected check from the insurance company to cover damages previously “not-covered”, this annual event is Tedei’s way of giving back something to the community and raising awareness about local food.
