What’s Eating Your Phone?

Food-photoby Steven Doyle

Not a day goes by where we don’t spot a handful of people in restaurants snapping photos of their catch of the day. It has become a national obsession, and as our phones become better integrated with superior photographic abilities, our handiwork becomes increasingly better. Last week we started a new feature called “What’s Eating Your Phone” where you send us your favorite food shots, and the response was simply amazing. We literally were sitting on hundreds of your photographs within the first hour. If you have an original photo taken by your phone’s camera, please feel free to send it to us for consideration at steven@cravedfw.com. A brief description is always helpful.

margarita

Sheri Hall sends us this beautiful margarita, and says that she shoots more ‘ritas than food. “This is a $4 Happy Hour house margarita from On The Border (it was nice and large, not too tart). We ate on the patio and it was super windy; we almost lost our bowl of chips. When ordering we found out they are doing a countdown to Cinco every Thursday starting last week; they have a different $3 and $5 drink special every Thursday,” said Ms. Hall. She uses her iPhone 5 with the Hipstamatic application.

Alyson Brown

Alyson Brown sends us this beauty. “This picture displays the culinary creation of the Cuisine Counselor, better known as Thomas Morris (a recovering lawyer turned private chef).  He served a Wilted Spinach Salad with Duck Cracklins (yes, duck cracklins) at a dinner I attended last week. Thomas is an interesting guy, and his journey from trial lawyer to chef is a move in the right direction!”

blind

JBD sends us this pic of the Duck Poutine at Blind Butcher, and pronounced it awesome. JBD adds, “Make sure to add the seared foie gras and wash it down with a Duvel.”

LUCK

Connie Hull sent in her favorite sandwich from LUCK in Trinity Groves, and offers that the pastrami is “extra smokey, thickly cut, and super delicious.” She said that the side of Brussel sprouts was a perfect addition to the plate.

Resto

Brett sent in a photo of her brunch from Resto Gastro Bistro, also in Trinity Groves, and said the highlight was the bloody Mary bar.

  1. Wow — every single one of these dishes looks amazing, especially the margarita. It’s true that camera technology in our phones is being enhanced at an incredible rate. Our smartphone cameras are turning the average person into a professional photographer, without them even knowing it. I don’t have my own picture to send in because I don’t even have a smartphone, but for now, I guess I can just look at these pictures and let my mouth water.
